The role is based in Herefordshire but provides psychological leadership to relevant Trustwide Service Delivery Units (MH Acute and Community).
Combining professional leadership and line management (including budgetary control) for all adult Psychological Services and CENS.

We are offering a hybrid model combining virtual and in-person working.
There will be scope for direct clinical work based on area of expertise and service need.

Main duties of the job
The post holds professional responsibility for all adult mental health psychological services in the Community (Neighbourhood Mental Health Service): Specialist Teams (EIPS; AOT; EDS; Perinatal; CENS) and Mental Health Acute Services in Herefordshire.
Psychological staff: clinical, counselling and forensic psychologists; art psychotherapists; CBT and DBT therapists; CAPS and MHWBPs, trainees and assistant psychologists.
Maintaining a robust, confident and cohesive staff group has been and remains a priority.
Working alongside the relevant associate directors and senior management teams to provide clinical leadership, operational management, support and direction in the delivery and integration of psychological interventions and psychologically informed care to adults over the age of 18 years.
Key role supporting general workforce development and ensuring meaningful governance; extending the reach of psychological services and psychologically informed care across all disciplines and service areas.
Pivotal role co-ordinating training, (including PT: SMHP) and informing Trust strategic direction. They will represent the Trust at regional and national forums (such as the West Midlands Supervision Hub Steering Group).
Herefordshire has well developed initiatives around co-produced Trauma Informed Care and championing Compassionate Leadership. The new post holder will continue to support and develop such commitments.

Job description Job responsibilities
Be responsible for the professional management /leadership of Working Age Adult Psychological services across Herefordshire, including community and inpatient mental health services.
In addition, be responsible for defined pathways across both counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire as agreed with the Associate Directors and Trust Lead for Psychological Interventions.
Responsible for the systematic governance of the psychological resources available to the client-group. This includes line management and professional leadership of qualified staff, trainees and assistants, and the psychological materials employed in the assessment and treatment of patients.
Report directly to the Trust Lead for Psychological Interventions and nominated Associate Director for one of the two mental health Service Delivery Units. They will work closely with colleagues to deliver high standards of professional leadership, high professional standards, high quality psychological care and positive outcomes.
Take responsibility for the training and development of staff in delivering informed and robust psychological therapeutic interventions, in collaboration with the Psychological Professionals working directly with patients.
Be responsible for psychological aspects of service and policy development across the client-group. To advise on the nature/level of the resources necessary, and to ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality psychology service is maintained across all sectors of care.
Provide leadership, take clinical responsibility and coordinate the provision of psychological interventions within a defined service area, across all professionals providing those interventions.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- BSc/BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above in psychology
- Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
- Post-graduate level or above training and qualification in NHS leadership/management or equivalent leadership/
- management experience
- Eligible for registration as a Chartered Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) by the BPS
- Membership of the BPS
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a
- Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
- Additional formal qualifications demonstrating specialist clinical/managerial expertise relevant to post
- Accredited membership of an appropriate psychological professional body, e.g., UKCP/BABCP/Division of Neuropsychology
- Advanced specialist knowledge/training/experience. This may have been developed in a variety of ways. Appropriate evidence could include relevant research, publications, additional qualifications or outcomes of previous work in the Specialism.
- Formal training sufficient for the supervision/professional management of psychologists and other professional as relevant.
- Leaning acquired through participation in relevant specialist courses/training.
- Extensive post-qualification CPD while working at highly specialist level in an area of direct relevance. The CPD must be of a nature acceptable to the BPS.
- Receipt of extensive clinical supervision working as a qualified clinical psychologist.
- Highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models for psychopathology, psychometrics, up to date practice with client group and two or more psychological therapies. Care coordination or equivalent role with people with highly complex psychological needs.
- Highly developed knowledge of the theory, practice and application of psychological principles to interventions and treatment approaches in this specialist field.
- Knowledge of coordinating and conducting R&D activities in service settings. Knowledge of writing up R&D activity for a variety of purposes and audiences including publication.
