The Phoenix Centre is one of the very few remaining NHS units in the country that treats young people between the ages of 12-18, with Anorexia Nervosa and Eating Disorders. This post will train you to take a leadership role within the unit supporting young people with Safeguarding issues. A significant number of young people require support around Safeguarding, which requires liaison with other professionals and direct support for the young person and their family. This work can be highly rewarding, as directly contributes to the improvement of young people and their families lives.
We are looking for highly motivated staff who wish to progress in their career, develop highly specialised skills necessary to support the young people and their families under our care, with these difficulties. The successful candidate will be offered Safeguarding Link Training, you will be given the opportunity to shadow the Trust Safeguarding and MASH Team, whom you will be working very closely with. The expectation is that you will take a key role in facilitating Safeguarding Practice on the unit.
Main duties of the job
Eating disorders can be associated with high levels of co-morbidity, such as Depression, OCD, Social Phobia, Anxiety Disorders, Emotional Instability and sometimes Psychosis. This in combination with the complex family dynamics that can co-exist with the illness means that staff who join us are able to develop strong generic psychiatric skills in the management of multiple diagnoses, alongside highly specialised skills that can only really be learnt on a unit such as The Phoenix.
Alongside the Safeguarding Role, the successful candidate will be trained to deliver Individual Keyworker Sessions and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). There is also the opportunity to attend a 2-day Introduction to Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT); as we hold biweekly Case Discussions, externally supervised by the current Vice Chair of The Association of Cognitive Analytical Therapy; in which we use the principles of CAT, to formulate cases and provide a reflective thinking space. Our Nurses are also welcomed to join Family Therapy Sessions and our Multidisciplinary Therapeutic Assessment in the first week of admission.

Although your base will be at the Phoenix Centre, there are significant opportunities for personal development, on our sister units: the Darwin Centre for Young People, a general adolescent inpatient unit and The Croft, our younger childrens inpatient service. It is an expectation and desire that nursing staff will undertake personal competency development on all our units to meet skill development and service delivery needs. The appointment will be to the Tier 4 Childrens Inpatient Services within CPFT. The Trust operates a rotational shift pattern that includes weekend working when required by the unit/Trust. Although infrequent, you may be asked to undertake individual shifts on other units to meet the needs of the service and fulfil the Trusts duty of care to all its patients.

Person Specification Education / Qualifications Essential
- Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or other specialism relating to post such as Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD) or Registered Nurse Children's (RNC)
- NMC registration
- Post graduate qualification relating to ward specialism
- Mentor qualification / ENB 998 or equivalent
- Additional qualification for specialism
- Experience of in-patient services and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Basic level of dealing with service users with complex mental health needs
- Experience of providing mentorship
- Experience relating to ward specialism
- Lived experience of mental health
