This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical psychologist to take up this key leadership position in East Hertfordshire Child And Mental Health Service (CAMHS). You will be joining a welcoming multidisciplinary team, with a strong interest in developing practice and innovation. As the Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist, you would play a central part in supporting high quality clinical practice and future service development.

The primary role of the East Hertfordshire CAMHS is to support children and adolescents experiencing complex and serous mental health problems. The service delivers a robust multidisciplinary team approach offering individual and family interventions which are evidence based.

Main duties of the job

The post offers excellent opportunities for professional growth. As the successful candidate, you will be working within the framework of the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) offering both 'Choice' assessments as well as on-going 'Partnership' work. We are looking for someone with experience of both long and short-term psychological, psychotherapeutic, parent/ child psychotherapy, consultation, and supervision - including of trainees.

We are an innovative and dynamic service and our most recent CQC report (May 2019) rated the Trust as 'Outstanding'. You will work as one of a number of Consultant Leads within HPFT CAMHS, with great opportunities for further professional development and peer support. Recent service developments include transformation of our inpatient services with New Care Models, and development of a DBT team. We are aTrailblazer site for the Mental Health Support Teams in schools and we are keen to promote quality improvements and innovative ideas, to improve care and the Service User's experience, in line with iTHRIVE and the broader CAMHS transformation agenda.

In addition to the four quadrant clinic teams, our service includes a Specialist Eating Disorder Team, Specialist CAMHS Crisis Team, Targeted Team for looked after children, an adolescent inpatient unit (Forest House), and Home Treatment and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy teams.

Job Summary The post holder will be responsible for the leadership and governance of the Practitioner Psychologist provision within CAMHS As a senior practitioner and clinical lead within CAMHS, the post holder will work closely with the Professional Lead for Psychological Services within CAMHS, other senior leads and operational managers to ensure the quality, efficiency, and outcomes of the Practitioner Psychologist provision within CAMHS service, within the context of the principles of CAPA (The Choice and Partnership Approach) and CYP-IAPT

As a senior psychological therapist within the quadrant MDT, the post-holder will work closely with the quadrant Community CAMHS Manager and other senior clinicians in the team to provide leadership and governance within the quadrant. The post-holder will offer Core and Specialist/Specific work (according to CAPA definitions) within the quadrant, and Specialist/Specific work as part of a CAMHS-wide therapeutic team as appropriate

Person Specification Knowledge, Training and Experience Essential
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology
  • Two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Further training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-doctoral training (diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, together with an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice with an experienced clinical supervisor, at an equivalent level to a postgraduate diploma. Completion of a clinical supervision training (short course) sufficient to be able to supervise doctoral trainees
  • Registered with the HCPC
  • Significant and extensive clinical experience in Specialist CAMHS with expert up to date knowledge of clinical practice
  • The ability to provide specialist advice, guidance and support to peers and colleagues on complex clinical practice issues
Desirable
  • Recognised training in psychometric practice and neuropsychology
Experience and Knowledge Essential
  • Assessed extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist including significant post qualification experience within the designated speciality where the post is located
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
  • Experience of teaching, training andsubstantial experience of professional and clinical supervision
  • Experience of professional management to qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists
  • Experience of multi-professional management of teams or services within the designated specialty
  • Experience of representing the profession in local policy fora
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
  • The ability to engage with young people and their families and to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship amid complex and painful family difficulties
  • The ability to work and co-operate actively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and as a member of the CAMHS service structure and with the wider professional network including other agencies
  • The ability to facilitate the work of others, and through example to promote the highest standards of good practice
  • An ability to oversee the provision of clinical psychology within a MDT and delegate to other clinical psychologists as appropriate
  • Awareness of Child Protection
  • Doctoral level (or equivalent) knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and two or more distinct psychological therapies
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS
  • Highly developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists
  • Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialized psychological therapies
  • Experience of service quality monitoring (e.g. clinical audit, evaluative research etc)
  • Experience and knowledge of CAPA and CYP-IAPT
