This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a child and adolescent mental health multidisciplinary team delivering high quality service provision that promotes and improves the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people and their families.

We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated and experienced Clinical Specialist Nurse who has the skills and knowledge in the assessment of children and young people and to deliver expert nursing care, advice and support to children and young people with mental health problems.

You must be an NMC Registered Nurse and possess a sound knowledge of child development and child mental health. You will work alongside our multi-Disciplinary team of Child Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Nurses and Social Workers. You will be responsible for demonstrating excellent clinical outcomes, safe and effective delivery of care to children and young people.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical management of cases in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Provide accurate, clear and concise communications in all aspects of delivering the service.
  • Establish and maintain effective inter-agency and inter-team communication and liaison systems.
  • Develop, establish and monitor operational policies and protocols which reinforce the nature of collaborative and 'best practice' service provision. Establishing and maintaining quality care standards and procedures which support the aims of HertfordshirePartnership NHS Foundation Trust and the ethos of Liaison work.
  • Monitor caseload ensuring activities are targeted to meet clients/patients, fulfilling the agreed criteria and KPI's.
  • Maintain the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (and its updates) and CPA, ensuring that the team members are able to assume Care Co-ordination responsibility.
  • Ensure the continued professional development of team members by being part of annual individual performance reviews.
  • Maintain one's own professional registration and development.
  • Effectively manage all aspects of own time i.e. Duty Rota, time worked and annual leave.
  • Where the post holder is an Approved Mental Health Practitioner to participate in local AMHP rota.

Job description Job responsibilities

You will be expected to manage your caseload effectively in order to improve the experience for the child and family, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately within a multiagency context where collaborative working is key.

You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be flexible and able to use initiative. You will also need to be capable of working independently as well as pat of the wider CAMHS multidisciplinary team and be adaptable to the changing needs of the organisation and be able to work across disciplines.

Person Specification Knowledge, Training and Experience Essential
  • Registered RNMH/RNLD/RMN
  • Degree with experience of post graduate level study or the equivalent experience
  • Teaching/training experience.
Areas Of Experience and Knowledge Essential
  • Previous experience of managing and supervising junior staff (including those from other clinical backgrounds)
  • Experience in a band 6 nursing role and good level of clinical knowledge appropriate to role
  • Experience of working with children, adolescents and carers
  • Detailed awareness of appropriate legislation, CQC requirements, Child Protection, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act including an understanding of standards
  • Ability to plan, implement and carry out a high standard of nursing care
  • Up to date working knowledge of child and family problems and disorders
  • Empathetic interviewing and counselling skills
  • Ability to run and support a range of interventions
  • Experience of working in other care settings
Communication Skills Essential
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to assess and report clinical information and provide clear and concise information tailored for different audiences
Analytical Skills Essential
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of psychiatric /mental health diagnosis and treatments
  • Knowledge and ability to positively manage change
  • Ability to identify and manage changes to clinical risks
  • Strong IT skills
