*An exciting, new opportunity has arisen for 1WTE 8b Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join our expanding Adult Inpatient Psychological Services Team *

The successful candidate will offer leadership, supervision, training and highly specialist clinical skills into our South Mental Health Unit based at Basildon (or Rochford depending on preference). They will join an established leadership team and participate in reflective practice, CPD and supervision groups. Flexible and adaptive clinicians will prosper in this role as well those individuals who enjoy innovative practice.

Attached to this post is up to £6000 of CPD funding over the course of 3 years for a skills specific training in a therapeutic modality which is aligned with the needs of our service/client population (subject to successful completion of the 6 months probationary period/in line with appraisals).

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join an existing 8b South Essex Inpatient Psychological Services Local Lead and together they will oversee EPUT south inpatient units.

The post holder will work with the leadership team to ensure that the Adult Inpatient Psychological Services team is current, evidence-based and in line with practice and Trust standards. They will provide day to day psychological therapy, clinical leadership, evaluation and monitoring of the service. They will work autonomously within professional guidelines to provide a high quality Inpatient Psychological Service to service users, assisting or leading in service development and project management as agreed.

The main duties of this job involve both clinical & line managerial responsibilities. The post holder will have excellent assessment, formulation and intervention skills as well as an ability to work short-term with Service Users who present in crisis. They will also have good supervisory skills and an ability to motivate our existing Inpatient Psychological Services staff who include; senior Psychological Practitioners, trainees, and our newly appointed Clinical Associates in Psychology trainees. A wider systemic understanding of team and organisational dynamics or an interest in developing this is welcomed. Duties also cover indirect working such as; representation at Trust wide meetings, chairing local service development groups and staff support initiatives (e.g. reflective practice and staff training).

Job description Job responsibilities

We, the Adult Inpatient Psychological Services team aim to understand the impact of trauma and adverse experiences on an individuals crisis presentation within the hospital setting. We work together with our MDT colleagues to ensure our Service Users experience purposeful inpatient admissions and timely discharges.

The successful candidate will be skilled and experienced in working in secondary care health settings and within a multidisciplinary team. Working with and formulating complexity as well as understanding crisis presentations is essential for this role. The ability to make professional recommendations and risk informed decisions alongside the ward team is key, as well as a passion for partnership and MDT working.

EPUTs Adult Inpatient Psychological Services team cover 6 inpatient sites across Essex. Each site has a Principle Lead overseeing the area. Our team is comprised of Principle/Senior Practitioners, Arts Psychotherapists, trainees and CAPS. We acknowledge the excellent day-to-day work of our staff team and also pride ourselves on new creative practice as evidenced by recent innovations; such as our Out of Hours access to psychological groups scheme and our nationally recognised staff training packages.

Clinical research, teaching and specialised interests are encouraged as well as formal courses. Members of the directorate have enjoyed secondments and learning opportunities across the Trust.

This role is eligible for High Cost Area Fringe Allowance of 5% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,136and a maximum payment of £1,915.

Registration with The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is essential and eligibility for registration with a professional clinical body (BPS).

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential

• Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and BPS.
• Evidence of significant CPD in relation to Adult Mental Health.
• Good oral communication skills based on fluency on the English Language.
• Literate in IT and computer skills.

Desirable

• Qualifications in management and supervision of psychological services colleagues.
• Post-doctoral qualifications in EMDR/DBT/CAT/Schema Therapy/Sensorimotor Psychotherapy/CBTp or other evidence based models for the treatment of complex cases, personality disorders and/or psychoses.

Knowledge Essential

• Knowledge of mental health legislation, NHS Constitution, CPA and risk assessment and management.
• British Psychological Society Code of Professional Conduct.
• Knowledge of psychological therapies and the application of current models of practice, specialist assessment tools and outcomes frameworks in own specialist area of practice.
• Ability and knowledge to select and apply psychological specific interventions in the delivery of the Trust's multi professional pathways and in accordance with mental health evidence-based recommended interventions.
• Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, psychoses, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc.).
