This is an exciting opportunity to work in and contribute to the effectiveness of the West Essex Support and Treatment for Early Psychosis Service (ESTEP) and to gain some new experience for your own personal development. We are recruiting additional staff to join our already fantastic team to meet the National Early Intervention standards.

The WEST ESTEP Team cover Thurrock, Brentwood, Basildon, Billericay and Wickford.

However, you are expected to work flexibly and where appropriate jointly with the East ESTEP Team.

As part of this team, you will be expected to work closely with clients with a first episode psychosis aged between 14-65 years and their families.

We strongly encourage creative engagement and a focus on social recovery.

We work very closely as a multi-disciplinary team and expect all team members to support our commitment to a programme of education and awareness to carers and in the local community

This position is a full time role but is also available as a job share.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake care co-ordination of a small caseload of clients.
  • Carry responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of recovery based care plans.
  • Participate in collection of data including looking at entry and exit pathways to care, and duration of untreated psychosis as well as Dialogue & QPR to ensure that we provide a successful service in terms of high quality outcomes.
  • To maintain effective individualised care through assessment of service user and carers problems. Plan, implement and evaluate interventions and clear, accurate and concise documentation of individualised care.
  • Undertake initial health and social needs assessments and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to look at appropriate selection and allocation of clients to CPA and regular reviews.


  • Following analysis of client assessments, plan creatively to meet their needs including the provision of evidence based interventions.
  • Prioritise and manage workload to ensure the effective management of a defined group of clients with complex needs.
  • Work flexibly across the West ESTEP Service and participate in 7-day rota.

o To work flexibility and participate in the West ESTEP Service-operating 8am-8pm, 7 days per week. This pattern is subject to change to meet client's needs and the guidelines of the National Service Framework

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential
  • Registered on the NMC or HCPC Register e.g. RMN or equivalent for social worker or OT
  • ENB998/Mentorship in Public Services or equivalent
Desirable
  • Certificate in a psychotherapeutic intervention e.g. solution focused therapy, Basic CBT, BFT or other psychosocial interventions etc./OR willingness to develop knowledge and skills in these areas
  • Evidence of personal and professional development in contemporary mental health
Knowledge Essential
  • Knowledge of Early Intervention in Psychosis
  • A good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983/2007
  • Excellent working knowledge of the practices and principles of the Care Programme Approach Excellent knowledge of clinical conditions and systems of good practice in modern acute mental health
  • Ability to deputise for the Clinical Lead when required
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in risk management and assessment
  • Able to undertake comprehensive assessments, including physical health care, health promotion, social inclusion and recovery
  • Ability to write clear, concise, relevant, accurate, evidence based record keeping
  • Commitment to the principles of recovery and work in a way that identifies people's needs, strengths and enhances hope, optimism, and respect during the recovery process
  • Knowledge of current Mental Health developments specific to EIPS
  • Competent in practising ethically and challenging inequality
  • Uphold and practice all of diversity and ethical policies and procedures
Desirable
  • Evidence of management /leadership training
Skills/Experience Essential
  • Good oral communication skills based on fluency on the English language
  • Experience of ensuring that the values including Care, Compassion, Competence, Confidence, Communication, Courage and Commitment are adhered to daily, and any matters of concern are raised with the relevant Line Manager or through the necessary processes within the Trust
  • Experience in working in community mental health services
  • Experience at Band 5
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary setting
  • Competent in leading and prioritising in a busy environment
  • Ability to problem solve and to deal with everyday issues
  • Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with other agencies
  • Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate using Care Programme Approach
  • Excellent observation skills
  • Able to give clear concise verbal information
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Conversant with IT skills, including use of Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in delivering care in accordance with the Recovery Model Provide care to promote social inclusion and Vocational Services

  • Experience in working with people with 1st episode psychosis
