The MD role in the Divisions is an opportunity for you, as a medical leader, to become part of a new senior leadership team focusing on the development and delivery of holistic care supporting your local population needs. As a senior team member, it will give you the opportunity to actively influence and shape the future of our services. The successful candidate will have support to develop into the role, this will include coaching, education and training. What is really important for us in this process is that you subscribe to our values and ambitions for our patients and services user, described in the Five Year Forward View and NHS Ten Year Plan.

With that in mind we are looking for a Medical Director roles for Southampton Division at Southern Health NHS Trust. The role will be complimented with a Consultant Psychiatrist role is either Older Persons Mental Health or Adult Mental Health available in both inpatients and the community.

Main duties of the job

PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP

*To support good practice on equality, ethnic and cultural issues for staff, patients and carers.

*To ensure that there is full and accurate clinical advice from staff working in the service, providing professional advice on quality, performance and other issues as required.

*To ensure that clinical practice is evidence based and effective.

*To be jointly responsible with the Divisional Management team, alongside the for ensuring the delivery of a safe, responsive and effective clinical services. This currently includes all services as applicable either for mental health or physical health within the Division.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & CAREER DEVELOPMENT

*Accountable for the safe implementation of Doctor in Training rotas within your Division, ensuring any gaps are identified and addressed appropriately to maintain safe services.

*To support the Chief Medical Officer/ Chief Operating Officer in managing the medical workforce by ensuring that Consultants in the Divisions have annual appraisals, reviews of PDPs and job plans.

*Ensure that other doctors within the service are appraised annually in line with Trust policy.

*Ensure that proper arrangements are in place to address safeguarding matters, training of postgraduates and teaching of medical undergraduates.

*Responsible for workforce planning for the medical workforce within the Division developing creative solutions to any actual or anticipated skills gaps.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • At least 3 years' experience as a Consultant Physician

  • Good knowledge and experience of the operation of the services.
