Do you have a passion for rehab? Do you want to be able to make a real difference to patients' lives? Then this is the job for you! We're recruiting a full-time, permanent B6 SLT starting 1st April 2023 to join our fabulous team in the beautiful Nevill Hall Hospital. This is easily commutable from anywhere in Gwent, along the heads of the Valleys corridor, Cardiff, Gloucester and Bristol.

Within the SLT team, you'll be working closely with a B5 SLT with regular supervision and support from our B7 stroke lead and B8a professional lead. You'll also be able to access peer supervision including from an experienced B6 SLT in the sister rehabilitation ward in the Royal Gwent, Newport.

Aneurin Bevan SLT department is a supportive and friendly team that prioritises your development and will help you take steps to achieving your career goals, whether this be through internal or external training or development opportunities. We have some very experienced staff in the department including clinical academic SLTs and SLTs leading the profession nationally in their clinical areas.

You'll have on-site access to videofluoroscopy clinics and there is opportunity for VF training if this interests you. As a department we have a rehab focus, and we regularly invest in the newest technology to support our patients including:
  • Biozoon trial on site which you can lead on locally, including up-skilling the MDT to improve patients' quality of life.
  • VR headsets
  • SEMG and IOPI

Main duties of the job

You'll have the chance to work across the stroke rehabilitation and acute medical caseloads so there will be the perfect mix of dysphagia and communication work to suit all interests. You'll be a key member of the stroke MDT where SLT is truly valued by therapies, nursing and medical colleagues.

The focus of this role will be providing assessment and rehabilitation across the site. Within the stroke unit you'll have the freedom and opportunity to shape the service to meet your patient's needs. This could include developing group therapy or breakfast clubs.

We're looking for someone enthusiastic and passionate about rehab and MDT working. Dysphagia competencies (or the majority of them signed off) are a must for this role.

If this sounds like the role for you, then apply now! We welcome informal chats or site visits from interested applicants.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
