Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist/Psychotherapist - HMP Wormwood Scrubs (1WTE)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist to work as part of Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust's Health in Justice teams.

The post holder will be required to support the delivery of care currently in the form of New Models of Care, enabling the service to meet the London Wide service specification standards for Prison Healthcare.

The role involves working within the multidisciplinary mental health hub , supporting the Therapies Lead to deliver a high quality, trauma-informed service. We are looking for individuals with some experience of working in either forensic or acute mental health settings, who will embrace the varied challenges and rewards presented by working with service users with complex emotional / mental health needs and associated offending histories within a custodial setting.

Main duties of the job

The main focus of the work will be to conduct psychological assessments and to offer psychological interventions (individual and group) under regular supervision. The post will also involve supervising Assistant Psychologists and supporting the Therapies Lead in the development and management of the service. There are opportunities to be involved in Neurodevelopmental clinical pathways, research and training, as well as facilitation of reflective groups for staff. High quality, regular supervision and training opportunities are well supported within the Trust. Therapy staff across the prisons have recently completed EMDR, ADOS and ADI-R training and there is continued funding to support CPD.

Person Specification TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS Essential

• Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, forensic psychology or accreditation in Psychotherapy (BACP/UKCP) including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
• Registered with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist, and eligible for chartered status with the BPS as a Clinical/Forensic Psychologist/Psychotherapist

Desirable

• Training in ADOS/ADI-R or evidence of post qualification training in psychometric assessments

EXPERIENCE Essential

• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including in-patient settings and prisons.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism.

Desirable

• Experience of working in prisons
• Experience of service development, and/or supporting transformation within services
• Experience of facilitating reflective practice for multidisciplinary staff teams
• Experience of supervising Assistant Psychologists

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Essential

• Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
• Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Postgraduate level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
• Able to contain explore and formulate an understanding of high levels of distress both directly with patients and indirectly via supervision or case reviews with other staff.

OTHER Essential

• Ability to develop skills in the teaching and training of others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
