To provide specialist psychological interventions to children and young people referred to the Multi-disciplinary Harrow CAMHS team based in the Emotional Disorders Sub-team.

The post holder will provide assessment and intervention as well as providing interventions and contributing to specialist support plans for the care of children and young people with a range of mental health difficulties. They will contribute to highly specialist assessments of children and their families and support case formulation and treatment plans in line with best practice and evidence-based interventions.

The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures They will utilise research skills for audit to support policy and service development; and undertake research within the area served by the service and of relevance to young people, their families and carers.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision to trainees, and assistant psychologists

Clinical

To provide specialist psychological assessments of children and young people referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, psychometrics, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with children and young people, family members and others involved in their care.

You will work from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm service for young people experiencing mental health problems in Harrow area. The post will be based within the Ash Tree Clinic, South Harrow and the post holder will be expected to maintain the close links with the Hospital.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • To offer specialised psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, presenting with severe, complex and enduring psychological difficulties.
  • Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of the child/young persons problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, active partnership and goal setting with the young person
  • To refer clients on, as appropriate, to other statutory and non-statutory services.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to children and young people formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all children and young people of the service, across all settings and agencies serving children and young people with learning disabilities, complex social factors and mental health problems/challenging.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual children and young people and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
  • Act as care coordinator, where appropriate, taking responsibility for initiating planning and review of psychological care plans including children and young people, their carers, referring agents and others involved the network of care.
  • Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of children and young people under their care and to monitor progress during both uni and multi- disciplinary care
  • To promote and participate in multi-disciplinary team working, development and liaison.


Person Specification Education & Qualifications Essential
  • oCurrent Professional Registration
  • oProfessional Training qualification: CBT Therapist, Clinical Psychologist or could be of different registered professional background
Desirable
  • Additional training/qualifications in relevant CAMHS assessment and treatment approaches, including ADOS and 3D
  • Recent Safeguarding children training
Experience Essential
  • Previous experience working with Children and Young People in community mental health setting.
Desirable
  • Training or experience in parent management techniques or programme
  • Experience of Group Work

  • Evidence base in relation to child mental health
