BDCFT are welcoming applications from experienced Mental Health Liaison Practitioners who have either NMC or HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as part of the Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service, providing a compassionate, responsive, and quality driven service to service users with mental health issues, presenting in the acute hospital
  • Complete robust and details biopsychosocial assessments to support safe and effective discharge from A&E as well as supporting the facilitation of early but effective discharge from the wards. The service operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week
  • Provide clinical risk and mental assessment, formulation and short-term contingency planning to service users who are in mental health crisis
  • Work within a general hospital environment, respecting their views and methods, while simultaneously promoting mental health and collaborative working. In addition, close relationships and partnership working will be essential with other key stake holders such as the Voluntary Care Sector, Local Authority, Blue Light services and above all, service users and their families.


About us

The Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service is a new and developing service which is expanding on the established psychiatric liaison provision in the general hospitals.

You would be joining a small but very friendly and motivated team of experienced practitioners which is made up of nurses, occupational therapist, advanced nurse practitioner, psychological therapist and psychiatric consultant.

The team and management structure are supportive, compassionate, and welcome all feedback and suggestions. As such, you will be actively encouraged to support the on-going development of the service and identify areas for improvement as well as being directly involved in promoting and improving the service.

The working pattern allows for a flexible work-life balance with plenty of days off to focus on what's important to you.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registration with relevant professional body: mental health nurse, occupational therapist, social worker or equivalent
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
  • Willingness to undergo education / training for both practice and service need.
  • Teaching, training and/or supervision of clinical staff/students
  • Training on brief psychological interventions/strategies for managing crisis is desirable
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Able to meet the service needs for mobility across the geographical area covered
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working in acute mental health care, working with people presenting in mental health crisis
  • Multi-agency working/working across service interfaces
  • Experience of health care/treatment relevant to service
  • Demonstrate and have an awareness of the application of research-based practice
  • Demonstrates knowledge of diverse cultural needs and working within a multicultural framework
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
