We are seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to work in our acute working age adult service. This is a unique post and an excellent opportunity to work clinically into one of the female wards being Responsible Clinician for 6 beds on ward 1 Becklin, whilst working as the Medical Lead for the acute services - the acute wards and crisis resolution intensive support service (CRISS). The postholder must be dedicated to working within a multi-disciplinary leadership team, whilst providing a medical and psychiatric perspective within the service. The role is supported by a 2nd Consultant Psychiatrist who will manage the remaining beds on the ward, ensuring that sessional time for meaningful and productive leadership work is protected and can be carried out in timely and responsive way. Requests to work flexibly are welcomed, for eg some time working from home or variation from standard hours, and supported subject to the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
Ward 1 is a 22 bedded female acute ward in LYPFT, based at the Becklin Centre in Leeds. The Consultant Psychiatrist in their clinical role will work alongside a large MDT leading on management of 6 female inpatients. This new additional post will be supported by a fulltime Consultant (responsible for the remaining inpatients), a full time Specialty Doctor and 2 junior doctors. The Consultant will play a key role in the medical and clinical leadership of ward 1 Becklin and in the supervision of the MDT and medical staff to ensure effective, high quality care for inpatients. There are 5 job planned sessions for this part of the role.
The Medical Lead role of the post is designed to be completed within the remaining 5 sessions. The post holder will be part of the Acute Services Senior Leadership team, but importantly will add a medical perspective to decision making and the development of the service. The post holder will be the medical voice for their Consultant colleagues, playing a key role in clinical governance at all levels and in workforce planning, including the development of non medical prescribers and multi-professional clinicians. They will be involved actively in the Acute Care Excellence (ACE) work and projects that impact upon quality and performance, such as embedding formulation into inpatient practice, reducing clinical variation across the service and reviewing the model of inpatient care.

Job responsibilities
We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our well established MDT on ward 1 Becklin and the Senior Leadership Team in the acute service at LYPFT. The Consultant will be the Responsible Clinician, working with the MDT to assess, review, prescribe, formulate and treat 6 female inpatients admitted to the ward. The majority of inpatients are detained under the MHA and the post is job planned to reflect the time needed to undertake MHA work. LYPFT has a proven track record in teaching and training medical students and junior doctors, as well as excellent opportunities for developing clinical and medical leadership. The main responsibilities of the Medical Lead part of this split role are outlined above and in the detailed job description, but can be summarised as medical line management and playing a lead role in the leadership team across the acute service, the aim being to ensure that the doctors in the acute services receive the best possible support allowing them to go on to provide excellent patient care. There is an expectation that the post holder will join the on call rota, on a pro rata frequency in line with the 5 clinical sessions.
The postholder will participate in the development of the Clinical Strategy and Service Business Plan and in improvement work on performance targets and indicators.
