An opportunity has arisen for an occupational therapist Band 5 within our Lancaster and Morecambe Community Mental Health Team. You will be based in either Lancaster or Morecambe and will cover a geographical area within the district.

We pride ourselves on providing an excellent support network for our occupational therapists. As a band 5, the successful candidate will receive regular supervision from the senior occupational therapist alongside management supervision from the team leader. Learning and development needs will be identified via the trust preceptorship scheme and/or the PDR process. A bi-monthly best practice forum provides regular CPD opportunities and a network of support amongst CMHT OTs within the locality. There are also regular events/opportunities provided by the wider occupational therapy network.

Main duties of the job

As part of this team you will have an occupational therapy specific caseload. You will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, formulation and intervention to those with complex occupational, functional or vocational needs. This will also include group work facilitation. Working alongside our senior Occupational Therapist you will be responsible for providing an occupational perspective within a well-established multi-disciplinary team.

We are seeking to appoint a candidate who demonstrates enthusiasm about advancing their clinical skills within mental health occupational therapy and can demonstrate an ability to work alongside service users, carers and the wider multi-disciplinary team in providing excellent treatment within a potentially challenging environment. A car owner/driver is essential for this role.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Diploma/Bsc/Msc in Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • Ongoing registration with Health Professionals Council
Knowledge Essential
  • Some knowledge of current best practice in OT
  • Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
  • Understanding of team dynamics
  • Basic knowledge of mental health legislation and current practice, including CPA and risk assessment and management
  • Basic knowledge of the principles of clinical governance
  • Health, safety and risk awareness
Experience Essential
  • Application of the OT process Broad range of under graduate practice placement experience
  • Use of functional assessment and the analysis of occupation
  • Positive learning from experience gained in mental health setting pre or post qualification
