Ty Lafant is a 7 bedded inpatient service that delivers an evidence based, multi-disciplinary admission pathway to individuals with a high complexity of needs.

We are looking for a band 6 Occupational Therapist to work at Ty Lafant learning disability assessment and treatment unit. Working as part of a closely knit multi-disciplinary team which includes nursing, health care support workers, speech and language therapy, psychology, psychiatry, behaviour specialists, arts therapies and occupational therapy the post holder will manage a varied and complex occupational therapy caseload.

Previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities or in inpatient mental health settings is essential for all applicants. The successful candidate will be supported in their clinical and professional development, and we support both internal and external training opportunities.

The OT will be based at the ward and able to work flexibly according to patient need between the hours of 8am and 8pm. We will consider applications for part-time, full-time and flexible working to support employee well-being.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide Occupational Therapy assessment & intervention to adults with learning disabilities presenting with behaviours which may be challenging and/ or mental health needs.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the MDT using the positive behaviour support model, to achieve positive outcomes and social inclusion for service users.

Within the OT service, practice is underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation and the post holder will be expected and supported to develop skills in the use of MOHO-licenced assessment tools, and the underpinning theory. Training in positive behaviour support and learning disability specific skills will be provided.

This post is part of a wider network and professional structure of OT across the mental health and learning disabilities division. The post holder would be expected to engage with regular practice forums and workshop opportunities to drive occupational therapy development in inpatient, community, and specialist settings. You will have access to the ABUHB OT core training programme, including manual handling training, motivational interviewing, care aims and other opportunities. Regular supervision and annual appraisals are integral to our service.

The OT service is committed to practice development. The post holder is expected to facilitate practice placements for students.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification Qualifications and/or knowledge Essential
  • Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
  • Specialist knowledge of learning disabilities assessments and interventions
  • Knowledge of PBS and complimentary approaches
