We are looking for a highly dedicated nurse, occupational therapist or social worker to join our Liaison Psychiatry Service at the St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey. Our team provides a comprehensive specialist service to patients, clinicians and carers in the general hospital setting. The team has PLAN accreditation as such you will be joining an already established and cohesive team.
This is a challenging but rewarding role, offering an exciting opportunity to nurses who have a strong assessment and therapeutic skills. You will need the ability to work autonomously whilst still contributing to the team as a whole. Previous experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry and across ages is desirable, although not essential. We offer excellent staff support through clinical supervision and teamwork.
You will have an excellent and positive approach to work, with an outstanding, demonstrable background of providing high quality care. You will have an insight into liaison psychiatry and the national guidelines impacting these services. You will have experience and willingness to teach and educate others within the team and the wider network as well as a commitment to service development and the best possible outcomes for people in the acute hospital setting.
Main duties of the job
The team is CORE 24, as such you will be expected to work a shift system across a 24 hour period seven days a week, 365 days a year, primarily assessing patients who are referred from St Peters Hospital Inpatient wards or those who present to the Emergency Department.
An understanding and positive regard for the needs and rights of people with mental health problems and their carers. Daily provision of a comprehensive mental health consultation-liaison service to clinical teams providing clear and concise advice regarding the appropriate management of individuals referred. You will need a sound knowledge base of working with serious ongoing mental health problems. Sufficient clinical knowledge will enable you to make decisions, based on an analysis of complex presenting problems and judgement about available options. This role attracts a local Retention Premium of £500 payable annually after 3 years of Service in the Team and each year thereafter as well as the Recruitment Premium of £3,000 payable on appointment - please refer to the attached protocol.

My job makes better lives by ensuring an accessible, non-stigmatising and localised service that responds to and meets the needs of people who may have mental health problems in the district general hospital
· To carry out psychosocial assessments of people referred to the Liaison service from a variety of sources within the General Hospital, including A&E and Medical Wards.
· To work with people presenting with a range of psychosocial needs arising in the context of physical illness, as well as people presenting to the hospital following self-harm or in a mental health crisis
· To provide rapid psychiatric assessment and safe discharge planning in Emergency Department.
· To agree on a collaborative plan of care with people who use our services and their carers where appropriate and arrange appropriate after-care
· To ensure that the relatives, carers and friends are actively encouraged to participate in care, provided with information, help and support where necessary
· To mentor, supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff including students
· To lead the care for a specified group of service users such as frequent AE attendees
· To assist in the development and maintenance of good working relationships with general hospital staff, local mental health services, primary care and non - statutory organisations
· To facilitate the teaching and training of mental health topics in the general hospital
· To work flexibly across 24 hours, 7 days a week as the liaison service develops to ensure the service level agreement is met and the changing needs of people who use the service in the hospital are met

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- RMN/RN (Mental Health)
- Willingness to complete Mentorship course
- Evidence of post qualification study
- 2 years experience as a Band 6; 2 years experience post qualification which should include independent assessment skills i.e. CMHRS duty, HTT assessment, liaison assessment or similar, aware of personal and professional boundaries.
