The role of Service Manager within North Manchester is a very exciting opportunity. The division has been developing its organisational identity and growing the culture of excellence within the inpatient provision therefore we are looking for someone to take up the role who has the skills, experience and motivation to support the team to continue this work as we move forward.

The Service Manager will also be a significant part of the team coordinating our move to the new North View facility, with150 single en-suite bedrooms to be provided over nine single sex wards, including a purpose built Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, seven adult acute wards for female and male adults, and one older adults ward. Therefore, will be joining a team of people who are working to manage this change in relation to both the workforce development and models of care delivery.

Main duties of the job

The post of Service Manager is integral to the continued delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services to adults with mental health needs in Greater Manchester.

The role plays an integral part in the strategic assessment, development, planning and delivery of flexible, personal and responsive services for people who need acute inpatient treatment when experiencing mental health crisis.

The post holder will have a wide range of responsibilities including deputizing for the Head of Operations, contributing to the management of change in service provision, supporting service re-design and directly influencing future service provision for adults with mental health needs.

The person taking up this role will also be required to provide management and professional leadership to operational managers and will be accountable for service delivery within all areas of responsibility.

Job description Job responsibilities

The postholder will work within Manchester Care Group and alongside the Head of Operations will deliver high quality, clinically directed services based on policy, guidance and evidence based best practice.

The Service Manager works collaboratively across operational and corporate services in order to deliver high quality outcomes.

The service manager will:
  • Be responsible for leading and managing inpatient services within North Manchester
  • Work collaboratively across all inpatient areas to support the management of patient flow
  • Be responsible for leading on identified work areas and projects divisionally and across the Trust as determined by the Care Group Leads and Head of Operations
  • Attend and positively contribute to the business and strategy meetings of the Trust
  • Work with the Care Group Leads and Head of Operations across the Division to ensure that services are developed in line with population needs, service demand and agreed national and local priorities
  • Provide support across the Manchester Care Group for inpatient teams in the absence of senior management
