The role would involve the care co-ordination of a small number of Service Users. You will also be involved in assessments and delivering a range of interventions to both individuals and their families and to groups.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside many other clinicians including family workers, CBT therapists, consultant Psychiatrist and psychologists. The team are very psychologically minded and we regularly meet for team formulations. You will receive training in specialist Early Intervention assessments and outcome measures and be supported where possible to pursue other areas of interest you may have within this field. You will have the opportunity to attend Network days with other Early Intervention teams, both within the trust and the whole of the South West of England.

Driving is a must and your own transport is essential for this role as supporting clients to appointments is part of the work. The team does work flexibly in order to reach clients and carers so some working outside of office hours at times is to be expected. In return you will get to work as part of a small MDT team with a real team approach. There may be opportunities in the future to train in CBT and Family work (in line with the Waiting time standards introduced in EI). There will be opportunities to network and join in shared learning with other EI teams, both in AWP and in the South West.

A) Clinical Duties:

To work within the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service, but develop and maintain excellent working links with colleagues from other parts of the mental health services and from other agencies.

To provide comprehensive and specialist assessment of people up to the age of 65 years referred to the Early Intervention Team with a first episode psychosis or possibly emerging psychosis. This will include the use of formal psychiatric and psychological rating scales, as well as liaison with carers and staff from other agencies that may be involved with the young person.

To plan, prioritise and deliver specialist programmes of care to people up to the age of 65 years for a three year period following a first episode of psychosis. This will include case formulation, design of intervention, delivery and evaluation. As care co-ordinator, you will be involved in co-ordinating multi agency input around the persons needs and will be responsible for your caseload within the community.

To work with and on behalf of young people in a way that promotes and develops their efforts, resources and quality of life. To deliver services in a manner that is appropriate, relevant and respectful to all community members, recognising diversity of ethnicity, culture, belief, privilege and capacity.

To liaise and where appropriate work in partnership with staff from other statutory services, voluntary agencies and community groups that work with adolescents, including education, in planning, providing and assessing programmes of care.

To work in a collaborative way with other members of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service team and staff from other agencies on the particular needs of people with psychosis and their families / carers.

To provide advice and to assist other members of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service with interventions which draw on own specialist professional knowledge (for example, an occupational therapist specialist would be expected to advice on and carry out specialist occupational and vocational assessments).

To work with other members of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service, to develop and facilitate clinical groups and workshops as appropriate.

To provide advice and support to carers/ relatives of young people, and to provide structured family interventions to families where a young person has a first episode or emerging psychosis.

To participate in clinical meetings e.g. CPA and client reviews as appropriate.

To support the full implementation of the Care Programme Approach.

To assist in the transfer of appropriate cases between services, in keeping with need and service user wishes

To ensure that legal and Trust requirements affecting service user and staff are adhered to, and ensure a safe working environment for service users and staff. To cooperate with statutory agencies with the responsibility to protect children and ensure that issues of risk and safety of young people are assessed, and any necessary action is implemented.

To maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times when working with highly distressed people

In line with Trust policy, to receive regular clinical supervision and to participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service.

To maintain accurate records relating to clinical and professional activity and to monitor clinical workload using agreed systems.

To communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and professionals, including information about diagnosis and prognosis, to find ways of enabling young people and their families to take this information on board, and to provide empathy and reassurance. B) Teaching and Training:

To participate in the development and delivery of teaching and training where appropriate. In particular, in conjunction with other members of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service and with appropriate staff from Education, CAMHS and Swindon Borough Council

To undertake further training / CPD as might be required to maintain ones own appropriate level of expertise.

C) Professional:

To fully observe Professional Codes of Conduct and Professional Practice Guidelines.

To participate regularly in and contribute to Early Intervention for Psychosis Service meetings and in any relevant Professional meetings

To be aware of and comply with all policies, procedures and directives of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service as well as the Trust.

D) Policies and Procedures
