We are looking for a CBT Therapist to join our friendly and innovative Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIIP) Service.

This is an exciting time to be involved in early intervention, with national recognition of the effectiveness of the model leading to plans to expand and enhance the care that we provide. The role offers excellent professional development; including teaching and consultation to MDT colleagues and develop skills in providing psychological opinion and knowledge within a friendly MDT. This is alongside the opportunity to provide individual and group psychological interventions including CBT for psychosis and an ACT for psychosis group.

The post is based in our East Surrey Team based at Horizon House in Epsom with a satellite base in Redhill. The CBT Therapist would be seeing clients across the East Surrey area and so a driving licence and use of a car is essential. Some remote working continues.

Our EIIP service are MDTs consisting of community Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Administrators, Psychiatrists and Psychologists working with people aged between 14 and 65 who have experienced a first episode of psychosis. We seek actively to engage, assess, treat and support people in their recovery, and work with them for up to three years.

You will be involved in assessment of clients referred to the team and will provide psychological therapy to clients.

Main duties of the job

You will be providing a specialist CBT service to promote recovery and valued living for people with first episode psychosis and their carers. Delivering high quality psychology assessments, formulation, interventions and consultation and providing supervision and guidance to MDT colleagues to facilitate psychological thinking and interventions throughout the service, which includes the following:

To be responsible for the delivery of CBT to clients within the EIIP Services across East/Mid Surrey.

To collaborate closely with MDT colleagues in providing a biopsychosocial treatment programme for clients with first episode psychosis.

To assist the Principal Psychologist in coordinating referrals to therapies within EIIP and to ensure waiting times are managed effectively within Trust guidelines.

To provide a CBT perspective within the team and provide consultation to MDT colleagues.

To carry out service related development and project work under the direction of the lead psychologist.

To supervise and teach unqualified staff including students

To contribute to conducting clinical audit, quality assurance and research, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within specific care group

Contribute to the teaching and training of mental health professionals and other staff working in the service.

After completion of supervision training, supervise staff in the service.

To contribute to developing and providing a range of specialist teaching/training packages which can be delivered to a range of multi-disciplinary audiences.

To positively contribute to divisional and team developments in relation to all aspects of psychology practice.

To contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.

To contribute to the evaluation of the Service by participating in service-related audit, research and evaluation projects. To contribute to the project management of complex audit, assisting colleagues to develop service provision.

To contribute to initiatives to ensure that the diverse needs of people within the care group are addressed within local services and future developments.

To practice within a Positive Behaviour Support and trauma informed care framework.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• BABCP accredited CBT therapist

Desirable

• Further training/qualifications in CBT for psychosis
• Supervisor Qualifications
• Accredited with a professional psychological therapy organisation

Experience Essential

• Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles.
• Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services
• Has received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
• Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
• Specialist understanding of the impact of language, culture, gender, ethnicity & disability in shaping attitudes, abilities & difficulties

Desirable

• Specialist experience of working with clients with severe and enduring mental health problems
• Experience of working in a MDT
• Experience of teaching and training
