An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly team within Learning Disability Services on a permanent basis, providing services for adults with a learning disability across Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, offering specialist communication and dysphagia support to individuals with complex health needs and their families

Main duties of the job

  • Providing assessment and treatment of individuals with learning disabilities in both communication and dysphagia
  • Working as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide responsive, well-coordinated care;
  • Taking a lead on service improvement projects within the Speech and Language Therapy team .

Person Specification Qualifications & Knowledge Essential
  • Current registration with HCPC and RCSLT
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area (e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Positive Behavioural Support)
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree, state registration, short specialist courses (eg.Post Graduate module in dysphagia or other clinical speciality) plus equivalent knowledge and experience in specialist field e.g adults with learning disabilities and evidence of CPD
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to clinical and service area
Desirable
  • Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or regionally
  • Post Graduate Dysphagia qualification
Skills & Competencies Essential
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at a specialist level of care
  • Able to demonstrate effective communication skills and work flexibly within the team/service
Desirable
  • Evidence of undertaking audits/surveys
Experience Essential
  • Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice
  • Experience of multi-agency/professional working
  • Experience of working with patients with a range of disabilities and application of techniques such as intensive interaction, AAC
Desirable
  • Evidence of planning and delivering training to carers/support staff
Personal Essential
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
  • Ability to effectively commute between the organisations various sites
