An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic practitioner psychologist to join a well established psychology team within specialised haematological cancer services, specifically BMT and CAR-T. There is a positive culture within the service of supervision, professional development, innovation, research and development.

We are in the position to recruit Psychologists who already have the competence and experience relevant to an 8a position, or Psychologists who meet the qualification, training and competence for a band 7 post. In the case of the latter, we are able to offer a professional knowledge and skills-based development programme that will provide you with the opportunity to acquire the appropriate skills and competencies to enable your progression into the 8a role. The expectation is that this progression would be achieved within a time frame of 12 - 18 months.

Newly qualified practitioner psychologists who are yet to achieve HCPC status on qualification will remain on a band 6 banding until confirmation that they have met the requirements for Doctorate status and HCPC registration is received.

Main duties of the job

Cardiff and Vale UHB's Haematology Services offer an exciting opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist Band 7/8a to join established multi-disciplinary teams and provide psychological expertise to young people and adults living with haematological problems and cancers requiring transplantation and the specialised CAR-T therapy.

Psychological skills are highly valued within the Service. The role includes direct client work, plus help for families, care workers, and our multidisciplinary staff. There is an opportunity for consultancy, innovation, service improvement, staff training and research/audit.

It is essential for this post to hold a Postgraduate Practitioner Doctorate in Psychology and to be a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist. Knowledge and experience of applying psychology in physical health/medical settings is essential, as is enthusiasm for multi-disciplinary teamwork.

There is a growing clinical health psychology and neuropsychology specialty group in the UHB, and within Haematology and Cancer Care. There is an active professional support network for clinical health psychologists in South Wales and you would be encouraged to develop your professional, supervisory and clinical skills via engagement in local and national CPD opportunities.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS.
• Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical / Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS).
• HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.

Desirable

• Additional training in relevant areas e.g., research, supervision.

Special Knowledge Essential

• Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical/counselling psychology.
• Doctoral level knowledge of clinical/counselling psychology theory and practice, assessment, psychological therapies and their application.
• Willingness to develop knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to Adult Clinical Health Services.
• Participation with CPD as recommended by the BPS.

Desirable
