We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Consultant to work in our friendly, multi-disciplinary team.You will be working with another Consultant psychiatrist cross covering each other. Supervision will also be offered from medical lead and Clinical Director.

This appointment is for 7PAs (28 hours per week) Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. The duties of the doctor will be predominantly devoted to the care and treatment of children and young people (CYP under 18 years old). The Hope service is a multi-agency service for young people aged 11-18 who are experiencing complex mental health, emotional social and behavioural needs which could cause a placement breakdown or require a Tier 4 hospital admission. It is a joint partnership between Health services, Children services, and Education. The team is made up of social workers, nurses, teachers, psychologists, art/drama therapists, psychiatrists a systemic family therapist and activity workers.

You should have certificate of completion of training or equivalent in CAMHS as well as having Approved Clinician status or working towards achieving it.

IT provision is in the form of a lap-top with remote access and a smartphone. Home visits and assessments on acute hospitals are regular and expected.

Main duties of the job

This is somewhat a unique role, as having elements of interface with Mindworks CAMHS, social care, tier 4 units, acute hospitals. It does give many opportunities for development including special interests. While the role is part time this can be discussed on interview.

You will provide a diagnostic, assessment, and treatment service for CYP with biopsychosocial needs. To adopt a multi-disciplinary (MDT) approach to care, promoting high quality MDT working and relationships across agencies.

To provide psychiatric support and consultation to other team members.

To provide consultation and liaison with other services, primarily acute colleagues, social services, residential settings and education.

Clinical

To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively both in electronic case records and supporting data entry for service data systems

To provide health information to other agencies where appropriate in accordance with the Trusts GDPR UK policies.

To receive regular clinical and managerial supervision as per the Trust policy of Supervision.

To undertake all necessary statutory and mandatory training

To keep updated with latest research and participate with research as appropriate.

To actively contribute to quality improvement, through personal development and service development, encouraging a research ethos, implementing best practice and developing audit projects to measure clinical effectiveness.

Managerial

To undertake the administrative and managerial duties associated with the care of CYP.

To participate in Trust-wide activities as a fully committed member of the medical body, contributing to achieving performance targets for the service.

To work closely with the General Manager to ensure that clinical standards are maintained.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Current full GMC registration, licence to practice and revalidation, CCT in Child and Adolescent Mental Health OR
  • Current full GMC registration, licence to practice and revalidation and higher trainee in child and adolescent scheme within 6 months of completion of training.
  • S12 approved or eligibility for it
  • Post Membership Accreditation in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Desirable
  • MSc /diploma in community child health
  • Experience of delivering training to other professionals
  • Experience of providing child protection reports for the Courts
  • Experience of undertaking appraisal
Experience Essential
  • Good evidence of involvement in all aspects of clinical governance including experience of undertaking clinical audit and research tools
Desirable
  • Experience in paediatric liaison, inpatient adolescent units
Skills and Knowledge Essential
  • Driving licence suitable for use in the United Kingdom and access to a vehicle for work purposes
  • Up to date knowledge of recent DH documentation and NICE Guidelines
