We are looking for a talented and highly motivated professional to join our Perinatal Mental Health Service as an 8a service manager. This role will provide leadership and management to three locality team mangers and take overall responsibility for the effective provision and strategic development of the Surrey wide Perinatal Mental Health service.

Service Overview

The Surrey Perinatal Mental Health Service is highly regarded and is accredited with the Royal College of Psychiatry Perinatal Quality Network demonstrating the service meets the highest standard of care.

Aims of the Service

The aims of the Surrey Perinatal Mental Health Service are to ensure that:

Every woman has access to services to support psychosocial wellbeing of herself, her infant, and her family and to prevent mental illness during the antenatal period until two years after delivery

Every woman can access quality perinatal mental health care and treatment at the right time, at the right level and at the right location

Main duties of the job

Following a service expansion this year there are three locality teams as part of a Surrey wide service. This role offers operational management for these teams. The teams are made up of:

East Team based at Horizon House, Epsom

North West, based at Unither House, Chertsey

South West, new base at Berkley house, Godalming.

Each team is multidisciplinary and includes:

Team Manager

Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist

Specialist Doctor

Senior Clinical Psychologist

Clinical Psychologist

Lead Community Mental Health Practitioners

Perinatal Mental Health Practitioners

Nursery Nurse

Team Administrator

Peer Support Worker

Team members working across all three teams:

Service Manager

Principal clinical psychologist

Occupational Therapists

Assessment & Triage Practitioners

Assistant Psychologists

Senior Practitioners (Social Worker)

Performance, Quality and Administration Manager

Job description Job responsibilities


Suitable for someone who is passionate about ensuring a high-quality holistic approach to the care and support provided to the women who have been identified as in need of perinatal support to enable them to have a positive experience of pregnancy, childbirth and the first 2 years of motherhood.

Key Responsibilities

Be responsible for the operational delivery of the clinical service.

To ensure that service operates in line with trust policies and procedures

To directly provide clinical and managerial supervision.

Monitor and maintain service budget.

Manage the development and implementation of the specialist teaching/training packages which will be delivered to a range of multi-disciplinary audiences.

To work as a member of the MDT to ensure the delivery of safe and effective services.

To ensure effective pathways of care and inter service coordination. e.g. midwifery services

To ensure that perinatal services work closely with other services that are subject to the long term plan e.g. Maternal mental Health and Parent Infant Mental Health.

To ensure service is fully accessible and responsive to those with protected characteristics in a way that challenges existing and potential health inequalities.

To create, develop and maintain professional supportive relationships with all members of staff with other professionals and agencies to enhance the womans experience and reduce risk of relapse.

To lead the development, maintenance and monitoring of service standards, collect and collate data/ information effectively for the purpose of audit, research and service performance.

To identify, implement and evaluate, with others, areas for potential service improvement and to agree further action

To ensure that the service meets the Perinatal Quality Network Standards.

To promote shared decision making with service user/relatives/carers as appropriate, involvement in all aspects of their care.

To ensure that the service meets statutory requirements eg Health and Safety

To research national best practice and enable services to benchmark practice against nationally recognized standards

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • NMC Registration as an RMN or HCPC as a Social Worker.
  • Driving license suitable for use in the United Kingdom.
Desirable
  • A post graduate clinical or managerial qualification.
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working in perinatal mental health services.
  • 3 years experience in a Clinical Team Leader or a Clinical Management role.
  • Experience of providing clinical and management supervision.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in Perinatal Mental Health
