Applications are invited from suitably qualified Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers interested to join our CaHTS (Crisis and Home Treatment) Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service based in BaNES Community CAMHS as a Mental Health Practitioner.
You will join the CAHTs (Crisis and Home Treatment) service and be responsible for initial assessments and delivery of time limited, short term interventions to address emotional and mental health needs of young people in crisis, with the aim of reducing longer term mental health problems.
The CAHTs team to deliver a high quality, comprehensive mental health service for children, young people and their families who are experiencing mental health difficulties.
Main duties of the job
You will deliver a high quality, comprehensive mental health service for children, young people and their families experiencing mental health difficulties. You will be responsible for the assessment, treatment and evaluation of care and provision of psycho-educational advice and practical support to young people and their families by drawing on psychosocial evidence-based interventions and using a collaborative, recovery focused approach. Risk assessment and management including the need for positive risk taking is an essential part of the role.

This is a varied and exciting role, an example of some typical duties are:
- Undertake a lead role for children and young people open to the team and work collaboratively with young people, their families and Care Coordinator and wider care team in the context of their environment.
- Providing effective assessment, planning and review of care needs using the CPA process.
- Establishing, maintaining and ending purposeful, therapeutic relationships with children and young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties. Practice will be creative and underpinned by specialist knowledge of, and skills in, evidence based and psychosocial interventions.
- Supporting the delivery of the Liaison Service by working closely with the CAMHS Liaison Practitioner.
- Supporting the delivery of the Community Model for Eating Disorders, including mealtime supports within the home or school.
- Using knowledge of psychological therapies, for example CBT, DBT and Solution Focused approaches.
- Providing time-limited intervention, often during periods of increased need related to crisis or deterioration in mental health in order to provide intensive community support as an alternative to inpatient care. Identifying appropriate discharge goals and working positively with risk using own professional judgment and team processes.
- New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
- Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Relevant professional mental health qualification - Mental Health Nurse/Learning Disability Nurse/Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Clinical Psychologist
- Current registration with relevant professional body - NMC, HCPC
- Training in supervision and appraisal
- Knowledge of mental health and community care legislation and policy
- Knowledge of Safeguarding policy and procedures
- Knowledge of Recovery Focused Practice
- Knowledge and experience of a range of evidence-based interventions i.e., motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy and a psychological therapy (i.e., CBT/DBT)
- Knowledge and experience of Child and Adult Protection work
- Understanding and experience of working with children and young people/adults with a wide range of mental health needs
- Experience of working with families, carers and significant others
- Ability to carry out assessments and psycho-social interventions
