Main duties of the job
You will be a trained Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, registered with the HCPC, with clinical experience within this age group of young people who are experiencing significant distress and impaired functioning due totheir emotional health.You will be part of a skilled community team with a real ethos of care for the young people seen. We seek thorough understanding of the young people's needs through team review, multi-agency working and supervisionprocesses. Your role will complement and enhance the existing psychological resources and skills within the team, provided by psychology, systemic practitioner, nursing, social care, occupational health and medicalcolleagues. As well as direct work with young people and their support systems, you will contribute to team formulation, consultation, supervision and skill sharing.

It is an exciting time to join the service. The Child, Families and Young People care group is coming together under a new leadership team. Psychology is represented at the highest level with a Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist as part of the leadership team, representing and ensuring the value of psychology within the service line at a strategic level. As with all CAMHS and Youth teams, we are undergoing transformation and development plans with other key agencies. We value multi-agency collaborative working and aspire to values from Future In Mind and CYP-IAPT, such as service user participation and ensuring appropriate and evidence based services for the young people we see.We would be pleased to be able to offer this post a preceptorship for suitably experienced candidates and would welcome applications from trainee psychologists who have recently qualified and would offer the post as a Band 7 preceptorship until the necessary experience and competences are met, upon which the post would move to an 8A.

Qualifications
Essential
- Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical / forensic psychology, accredited by BPS
- Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
Desirable
- Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions (assessment and / or therapist)
- Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
Experience
Essential
- Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist
- Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
- Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment.
Desirable
- Experience of representing psychology within MDT setting (clinical and organisational contexts).
Skills
Essential
- Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Able to effectively communicate technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals, within and outside NHS.
- Skills in consultation to professional and non - professional groups.
Knowledge
Essential
- Doctor level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis.
- Knowledge of mental health legislation within specialist clinical context.
Desirable
- Well-developed knowledge of theory and practice of specialised psychological intervention and assessment in specialist clinical settings and service user groups.

- Able to identify, provide and promote appropriate support strategies to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours.

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people. We are a large organisation covering a wide geographical area divided into ‘Care Groups'. There are also Care Groups supporting children, family and young people’s services, and specialist services, including Forensic mental health services.
Each Care Group has its own Leadership team, with the aim of supporting clinically led decision making locally, to support the needs of people accessing services.
