We are look for a Band 8a Clinical Lead Social Worker to work across CNWL's perinatal services. CNWL provides a wide range of perinatal services including community, inpatient, and maternal mental health services as part of the NHS perinatal mental health Long term Plan.

The perinatal services work in an integrated way with maternity, community and primary care services. It is an exciting time to join CNWL's perinatal team while the trust continues to grow and develop their perinatal services through securing investment. This ensures that care provided is safe, evidence-based and high quality.

This is an opportunity to join a highly valued specialist perinatal social work team. The ideal candidates should have significant post registration experience of working in adult mental health settings and/or perinatal mental health. You should have a proven and genuine interest in working with pregnant & postnatal women experiencing mental ill health from a culturally diverse population. Promoting the emotional and physical well-being and development of the mother and infant are central to the work of all professionals within high quality perinatal mental health services.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as part of the CNWL's Perinatal Services Senior Management Team providing a strategic vision for social care provision and specialist advice, direction and guidance on all aspects of social care relating to the perinatal client group while recommending possible best courses of action.
  • To provide professional leadership for all qualified Social workers within the Perinatal Service which includes in-patient, out-reach, community and parenting assessment teams, providing highly skilled advice and support in assessment, intervention and recommendations.
  • To maintain systems for effective professional supervision and support for social care staff and other staff with social care specific aspect of care across the Perinatal Service. This will include systems for effective recruitment and retention, professional knowledge and skills framework review and the identification of continued professional development and training needs.
  • To work with Service and Team managers to promote integrated care and support and flexibility of services ensuring it is responsive to the needs and priorities of people who use perinatal mental health services.
  • To develop and maintain high quality, effective social care in line with service / trust short and long term plans.

Job description Job responsibilities

To provide a strategic vision for social care provision in Perinatal Services in conjunction with the head of social care and service lead, providing highly specialist advice, direction and guidance on all aspects of social care and recommending best course of action. To take the lead to ensure the social care perspective and statutory duties are taken forward within the Perinatal Services in conjunction with the local boroughs social work leads.

Implement change and think strategically about issues affecting the perinatal service and be a strong, confident professional promoting social work and social care within NHS settings in line with the perinatal strategy and in conjunction with the perinatal lead and perinatal SMT.

To develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations which promote integrated working with CNWL of which perinatal services would benefit from To assume a lead role in relation to service user and carer involvement, championing the role of co-production in service design, delivery and review in conjunction with the service lead and clinical lead. To assume lead roles in relation to the children safeguarding in relation to the child physical, social and emotional development and health promotion agenda and as a trained professional consider how best to resource and respond to the priorities facing the SMT and local services. To represent services at corporate/divisional meetings. To monitor and support delivery of social work services in line with service specifications through the establishment of annual plans and reporting to the service and clinical lead and the Trust Head of social work through quarterly reports and meetings. To ensure that current national professional standards are embedded into clinical practice policy and guidance. To organise and chair social work Forums/meetings.Social workers Professional Governance Arrangements within Perinatal Services. To provide professional leadership ensuring an effective, cohesive & coordinated framework for social work within Perinatal Services. Develop clear guidance for staff on the role of social workers in multidisciplinary teams in conjunction with Social Work England guidance To ensure existing robust professional supervision arrangements are in place which provides assurance to the service and organisation that it has safe and effective practitioners. To ensure CNWL social worker staff meets the Royal College of Social worker standards; and individual social worker provides evidence to maintain their HCPC registration. To consolidate information from supervision and appraisal frameworks to monitor the competence levels of social workers staff within perinatal Services with regards to guidance and policy documents including aids & adaptations/medical devices To monitor and report on a monthly basis social work manpower activity in relation to starters & leavers; staff who move within the organisation; posts lost, created and converted; staff on secondment/extended periods of leave; vacancies and use of locums To ensure timely and effective response and engagement to Trust-wide and national agendas. To translate national and CNWL policy and guidance into local Social care service delivery. To ensure that local and national social work information, policy, standards and guidance are interpreted, disseminated & implemented. To coordinate student placements within the Perinatal Services ensuring all social workers facilitate the agreed standards around practice placements as a Practice Placement Educator and are suitably trained to take a student and provide high quality placements. To ensure regular and routine audit and evaluation of social care resulting in responsive changes to the delivery of services. To be responsible for the induction of social workers, other related staff and students and ensure documentation is completed within the required time frame in line with Department and Trust policy. To maintain own Continuous Professional Development.

Clinical Responsibilities To provide specialist expertise, advice guidance and consultation to other professionals in relation to social needs challenges that present in the perinatal period, formulation, diagnosis and effective treatment plans. To provide prompt advice and guidance to Social work staff (and managers) where complex and sensitive clinical or social work provision issues are identified. To oversee the development and maintenance of Social care perinatal care pathways for each of the service lines (in-patient, out-reach, community and parenting assessment) which ensure consistent high-quality social work provision. To be responsible for the standard of Social care needs assessment of people who access the Perinatal Services. To keep abreast of all developments in social care evidence based clinical practice, especially those relating to the perinatal client group, ensuring new developments are implemented where appropriate. To explore creatively in the adaptation of social care needs assessments and interventions for the best use in perinatal mental health settings, with consideration of the infant. To ensure the effectiveness of interventions are evaluated. To be aware of evidence based standardised assessment tools outside of social care needs that can be used to inform social care needs relating to the client group of mothers and babies To treat and advise on highly advanced and complex cases within professional and Multi Professional teams. To be aware of and sensitive to the safeguarding needs of children and vulnerable adults in the course of their work, and knowledgeable both regarding potential indicators of abuse or neglect and the specific duties relating to their role if they have concerns about a child's or adult's welfare. To update and embed good practice through briefing and training on domestic violence and support local perinatal team with linking with local MARAC coordinator and framework To update and embed good practice through briefing and training on Carers agenda and Care act in particular with the deliverable with regards to assessment of partners To update and embed good practice through briefing and training on adult & children safeguarding and the Care act

Workforce Responsibilities Contribute to the development and sustainability of a competent, productive, effective and healthy social work workforce in perinatal. To ensure staff engages in regular meetings, training and team building with the goal of promoting a working environment that is open, honest, supportive and outward looking. To ensure staff are trained and participate in regular audit. To liaise with Service Managers, Team Managers and Human Resources colleagues in relation to recruitment and strategic workforce planning to ensure safe levels of staffing To ensure that there is a robust Preceptorship in place for all newly qualified social workers within the service. To ensure that all staff are in receipt of regular appraisal and professional development support. Also collecting evidence for HCPC registration and contribute to social workers appraisals as required. To consolidate information from social workers supervision and appraisal frameworks to inform Trust-wide social workers professional CPD commissioning and learning and development activities ensuring equitable and effective use of Trust and Corporate social worker Service CPD monies. To develop and deliver work-based workshops/learning and development activities which support the learning and development of all staff. To ensure staff are pro-active in contributing to the team and service training initiatives. To coordinate social workers Forums/Meetings for all social workers staff across the service. To assist Team operational managers with recruitment and retention within teams, identification of job requirements, reviewing of job description/ person specification. To work with Clinical Placement Facilitator to co-ordinate placements for University students and ensure good quality placement standards are maintained. To provide professional leadership support to students while in placement to ensure they are receiving development support in line with professional standards. To be aware of and reflect on own practice as a clinical lead profession. To attend regular management and professional supervision where own limitations can be acknowledged discussed and access to training or support can be agreed. To act as a role model to staff, managing time effectively and meeting professional standards of practice. To develop and co-produce courses and workshops with CNWL Recovery & Wellbeing College

Communication Requirements To be responsible for effective communication with the Trust wide Head of Profession for social work and junior staff to aid with professional strategic planning. To ensure effective communication within teams, motivating and ensuring personal and professional development of all staff. To communicate with internal/external agencies to minimise/ resolve conflict. To be responsible for assisting Team Managers in investigating and drafting responses to complaints relating to social workers. To maintain effective working relationships with colleagues to provide feedback sensitively where needed on their performance.
