This is an exciting opportunity to support a new specialist home treatment service for older people. You will have experience of working with older people, across the range of mental health issues associated with ageing, including dementia. In addition to direct work with patients you would be supporting the team in providing brief psychological interventions, through complex case discussions and training. Experience of supporting people in their transition from hospital and preventing admissions would be very helpful. A psychology assistant would also support you in the team. We are able to offer financial support and study leave to undertake training. To informally discuss this position please contact Dr Andy Ashley (Andrew.ashley@nhs.net; Consultant Clinical Psychologist)

Main duties of the job

  • Providing assessments and interventions for older people with complex health needs, including neuropsychological assessment. Interventions may involve family members and carers and include liaison and consultation.
  • Active contribution to MDTs: providing case discussion and care planning with an emphasis on sharing formulations and evidence based care
  • Developing an area of specialist expertise, as part of our programme of evidence-based therapies for older people. We have recently supported training and accreditation in EMDR, MBT, Narrative Therapy and the QICN
  • Contributing to audit, research and development work
  • Working towards providing formal and adhoc supervision to other staff, including trainees aswell as providing teaching and learning opportunities.
  • Providing clinical expertise and leadership in the psychological needs of older people and their families and contributing to a culture of support and collaboration both in the service and with partner agencies.
