A fantastic opportunity is now available for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to influence the exciting expansion of our Rehabilitation Services at Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) based in the county of Hertfordshire.

Our Rehabilitation Services are always striving to improve and provide the best quality of service available whilst promoting clinical excellence. The expectation of this Service is that we can avoid hospital treatment where possible or reduce the length of inpatient stay and improve outcomes by improving quality of life and reducing the incidences of service users being readmitted to hospital.

The EROS team is instrumental in supporting patients with complex psychosis in the community. Since its inception the service has shown a significant impact in both improving outcomes for service users and reducing length of stay in inpatient services.

The successful candidate will receive up to £120 towards their registration fee, which will be paid upon commencement. This payment will be subject to tax and national insurance deductions.

Main duties of the job

Our Rehabilitation Services works to a whole systems approach to recovery from severe mental illness that maximises an individual's quality of life and social inclusion by encouraging their skills, promoting independence and autonomy to give individuals hope for the future and leading to successful community living through appropriate support. We aim to provide evidence-based interventions through a full range of multi-disciplinary team interventions to support the individual achieve this.

Our Rehabilitation Services provide 7 day a week services across both inpatient and community services. The service is made up of the following components:

Inpatient Wards:
  • The Beacon, St Albans - 17 Bedded Unit
  • Hampden House, Hitchin - 12 Bedded Unit
  • Gainsford House, Hitchin - 12 Bedded Unit

  • Community Enhanced Rehabilitation Outreach Service:
  • EROS Transition - 16 - 20 week pathway to support service users in their transition to the community from rehabilitation inpatient units or social care placements.
  • EROS Enable - Up to 12 month pathway to support service users in the community to enable them to access their own communities.
  • EROS Engage - Up to 36 month pathway to encourage service users to engage with services and enable them to access their own communities.

    A key feature of the role will be its close working relationship between the EROS service and the Rehabilitation Inpatient Wards. The expectation is that staff work across both services in an integrated manner to promote treatment continuity for service users and ensure better treatment outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to drive the promotion of psychology within the Trust and remain a leader in a sector and at the forefront of mental health.

    Person Specification KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Essential
    • Good honours degree in psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
    • Post-graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, or fully completed training as a Counselling Psychologist.
    • At least four years full-time post-registration experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment with clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature.
    • Full registration with Health Professions Council
    • Experience in neuropsychological assessment
    • Related academic qualifications to masters or doctorate level.
    • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
    • Assessed experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of adults of working age with a wide range of presentations of varying severity. Typically, this would involve a minimum of four years experience with 2 years at highly specialist level, or its equivalent demonstrated through CV and interview.
    • Experience of working with people with severe mental health problems, including complex psychosis and dual diagnosis
    • Demonstrate further specialist clinical experience and training, through a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months, or an agreed alternative
    • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment.
    • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision, including supervision of clinical psychology trainee(s).
    • Experience working within a multidisciplinary therapy service.
