Do you take an innovative and creative approach when working with service users?

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Newham Perinatal Mental Health Team. The Perinatal Mental Health Team is a mental health service for pregnant and postnatal women with severe and complex mental illness. The aim of the team is to detect, prevent and treat perinatal mental health problems to improve the experience of pregnancy and the postpartum period for women and their families. Women at risk of relapse following delivery are assessed early in pregnancy, to allow them time to consider the treatment and support options available. The team works collaboratively with women, their families and other professionals, to plan care for pregnancy and the postpartum period.

The development of all our Occupational Therapists are important to us. You will have access to peer and professional supervision, monthly educational sessions, CPD-sessions, quality improvement training and early leadership development. We really value and celebrate diversity and are interested in any unique skills and life experiences you could bring to the role.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Senior Occupational Therapist is to manage a complex perinatal mental health caseload, with particular focus on the intensive pathway, using the most current evidence based practice to assess, formulate, implement and evaluate interventions specific to perinatal occupational therapy. The Perinatal Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist will provide supervision.

As a part of Intensive Pathway, team can offer daily visits to monitor for indication of relapse in the postnatal period for those women at high risk of relapse. To facilitate supported discharge from mental health hospital beds and facilitating leave for those patients who are deemed to be at higher risk and may need additional support.
