Job Summary

Within this role, you will lead the occupational therapy department and provide assessment and treatment of occupational needs on a male rehabilitation ward. You will supervise an occupational therapist and be supported by Activity Coordinators who will provide meaningful activities for each patient.

We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role.

Main duties of the job

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction. An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team.

This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Your Role
Service Line: High dependency inpatient rehabilitation

Summary of the site

Cygnet Fountains a 32 bed high dependency inpatient rehabilitation service for men who have severe and enduring mental illness and who may have been detained under the Mental Health Act. The individuals we support come to us following multiple placement breakdowns, failed treatment programmes or stepping down from secure settings.

At Cygnet Fountains we have a number of different options to help support individuals to move on. We have 5 self-contained flats within the service to enable service users to build their individual skills before discharge while still having the full support of the multi-disciplinary team. We also provide a service just 2 miles away from Cygnet Fountains called Vincent Court. This five bed community rehabilitation service is for the men who have been able to progress through the hospital pathway who are working towards independent living.

You would be responsible for the assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction for service users working alongside a Band 5 equivalent Occupational Therapist and with the support of 3 activity co-ordinators. You will work with a full multidisciplinary team in a coordinated way to support each service user develop their skills and move through our clinical model of care from admission to discharge.

You would report directly to the Regional Lead Occupational Therapist within the High dependency mental health rehabilitation service line. You would also hold leadership and management responsibilities of the Occupational Therapy provision at Cygnet Fountains whilst providing clinical and managerial supervision for Band 5 equivalent Occupational Therapist.

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.
