We are currently recruiting for an outstanding Occupational Therapist to join our team at Gledholt. Gledholt is a 9 bedded Community Mental Health Rehabilitation Service based in the heart of Huddersfield. Our aim is to support residents with a diagnosis of Learning Disabilities and/or mental health to integrate back into society, promote independence and also support overall quality of life.

Main duties of the job

Within this role, you will contribute to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy service at our Gledholt service, you will work under the supervision of a Highly Specialist Band 7 Occupational Therapist.

You will support residents through the Rehabilitative Occupational Therapy pathway. You will also have the support of two Activity Co-ordinators, who will provide therapeutic interventions and meaningful activity engagement for each resident.

The Cygnet Occupational Therapy Department recognise not all Occupational Therapists qualifying at present may have had the direct experience due to the national placement crisis. We offer a graded approach to caseload management, have robust supervision support and have our own preceptorship process for all newly qualified OTs to consolidate core skills.

Hours: 40 hours

Responsible for: Contributing to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy department at Cygnet Gledholt. Providing assessment and treatment of occupational needs, under the supervision of a Senior OT. Promoting the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life.

Responsible to: Occupational Therapist (Band 7) clinical supervisor, Director of Occupational Therapy and Unit Manager.

  • Main duties

    As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist. You will promote the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life. This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

    Service Description

    Gledholt is an enhanced community residential service providing outcome focused support for adults with learning disabilities and mental health. It is a 9 bedded community based service that promotes quality of life alongside for men and women in a therapeutic and homely setting. The team works closely and collaboratively with residents, their family and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge.

    The Occupational Therapy department at Gledholt consists of 2 qualified OTs and 2 activity coordinators. There is a strong focus on community integration and Gledholt is fortunate to be situated in close proximity to a variety of rehabilitative establishments.

    Occupational Therapy Directorate

    Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

    Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

    We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.

    The Successful Candidate should be/have:
  • A registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council)
  • Experienced in the field of mental health desired
  • An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions and can take a hands on approach
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Passionate about student education

    Requirements

    The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
