We are looking for innovative consultants to join and complement our existing experienced consultant team. We have currently two vacancies in our team. These two jobs will complement two other consultants already in post for a total of 4 consultants in the local area.

CAMHS sees all young people, up to their 18th birthday, regardless of educational status.

North West Camhs team cover Runnymede, Woking, West Elbridge and Spelthorne

Desktop PCs are widely available at all sites. The trust is moving to mobile working with most medical practitioners having dedicated use of a trust approved laptop with remote access, as well as smart phone usage.

Access to electronic based literature searches is available to all who register with the local library.

Main duties of the job

The team delivers a full range of services to children and young people including primary mental health input. Additional support come from the Early intervention in Psychosis team which provides intervention for psychosis (covering people between the ages of 14 35 with emerging or apparent psychosis); The Crisis Service, which provides for the assessment of emergencies during normal working hours and at the weekend during the day and by the HOPE team for more intensive outpatient intervention (see below for more details);

Extended HOPE provides consultation and assessment to young people in crisis, out of normal working hours. Further, the eating disorders team and the Specialist CAMHS team for adopted and looked after children (established in early 2010) provide input across the county.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • To provide a diagnostic, assessment and treatment service for children and adolescents with a mental health problem
  • To adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to care, promoting high quality multidisciplinary working and relationships
  • To provide psychiatric support and consultation to other team members.
  • To provide consultation and liaison with other services, including paediatrics, childrens service, adult psychiatry and education, as appropriate.
  • To hold clinical responsibility for the Consultants care of patients where the Consultant is directly involved
  • To promote the development of close and effective working relationships with colleagues in allied agencies, notably childrens services and education.
  • To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively both in case records and supporting data entry for service data systems
  • To provide health information to other agencies where appropriate in accordance with the Trusts confidentiality and information sharing policies.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Recognised basic Medical Degree
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Full Medical Registration with a Licence to Practice
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in appropriate specialty (or within 6 months at time of Interview/Assessment) or equivalent
  • Approved Clinician Status and approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills.
  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working with a variety of patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a range of care settings including community, inpatient and specialist teams.
  • Evidence of active participation in Continuous Professional Development
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience
  • Knowledge of UK psychiatric provision
  • Experience in UK Psychiatric settings
Skills and Knowledge Essential
  • Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant
  • Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.
  • Ability to take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high quality care.
Teaching Essential
  • Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Research and Audit Essential
  • Ability to critically appraise published research.
  • Experience of carrying out a range of audit projects.
