Are you interested in a career in CAMHS? We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Mental Health Nurse to work and train to become a Band 6 Nurse in CAMH through our innovative and comprehensive training programme which includes formal teaching, experiential learning and supervision. The successful applicant will join the West London CAMHS Alliance service, based across Brentford Lodge (Boston Manor Rd., TW8 8DS) and West Middlesex University Hospital (Twickenham Rd., TW7 6AF). The West London CAMHS Alliance team is a tri-borough multi-disciplinary service which offer crisis assessments and brief evidence based interventions to young people presenting in a mental health crisis. As an Alliance clinician, you will be part of a thriving team of practitioners with a special interest and expertise in working with children and young people presenting with a range of different mental health disorders, such as Psychosis, Depression and Anxiety, and Eating Disorders.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will participate in the CAMH Development Program (detailed in the Candidate Information Pack) alongside their work in the Alliance team.

With appropriate supervision they will join the Alliance MDT in the delivery of clinical assessments and brief interventions to young people (0-17) & their families/ carers.

The post holder will manage a small caseload, alongside gaining experience in emergency assessments in A&E, crisis assessment and home treatment planning for T4 diversion, working on CAMHS Helpline, inreach to T4 services & acute mental health settings to offer CAMH input. With support and guidance from senior colleagues, the post holder will offer a range of evidence based brief interventions to young people and their families/carers.

Apart from clinical duties, the post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to service development, audit, research and quality improvement projects and will also act as a Supervisor for student nurses on placement in CAMHS.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse who has a desire to acquire post registration training and experience in CAMHS and is willing to commit to undertaking the CAMHS Development Programme which supports development from Band 5 to Band 6.

Person Specification Qualifications & training Essential
  • Degree/diploma in Nursing
  • Professional registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) RMN.
Desirable
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Evidence of post basic training in relevant subject to area of work
Experience Essential
  • Working with children in a health/education or other setting
  • Clinical case work and managing own work with limited supervision
  • Multi-disciplinary and multi-agency work
Knowledge & Skills Essential
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A thorough understanding of the mental health needs of young people
  • Ability to relate well to young people
