In 2017 the government published a green paper Transforming children and young people's mental health provision. Within that paper the recommendations included focusing on getting mental health practitioners into schools/college. Through a successful bid from NHS England, Darlington has been given the opportunity to set up a Mental Health Support Team.

The post holder will be responsible for offering both clinical and caseload supervision, leadership to the Senior Psychological Well-Being Practitioners (PWP's) and Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP's) alongside delivering CBT interventions at a high-quality level. They will be a vital part of the development of the Governed Psychological Therapies within The MHST's, The post holder will be part of the collective leadership of Governed Psychological Therapies and contribute to the development of colleagues in the team.

Main duties of the job

The MHST's have a vibrant and passionate multi-agency approach to children and young people's mental health and wellbeing. Starting from the point of maintaining wellbeing and preventing mental ill health is critical to all our work, followed by aspiring to be able to offer effective support at the earliest opportunity if a young person requires it. The team will be working closely with education services offering low-moderate interventions with these placements.

There are 3 functions of the MHST; Evidence based interventions, Whole School Approach, Offering consultations/ advice.

The post holder will hold a post graduate diploma in CBT and be either accredited or accredit able with the BABCP.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • RMN or equivalent mental health core qualification at degree level post 1993 & post graduate training to an accredited level in one of the Trust's Governed Psychological Therapies sufficient to meet the Trust's training standards for that therapy.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist or HCPC registration as an Art Therapist (this includes, Art Therapist, Art Psychotherapist, Drama Therapist, Music Therapist)
  • Evidence of contnuing professional development
Experience Essential
  • Working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems
  • Experience of psychological therapy provision in complex cases
  • Delivering psychological therapy in own field
  • Working in multi-disciplinary team settings
  • Delivering clinical supervision
  • Delivering staff training
Desirable
  • Experience of psychological therapy provision in complex cases
Knowledge Essential
  • Evidence- based practice relevant to the role
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Clinical governance
  • Legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
