You will be based in Oulton, near Lowestoft, the location offers the lifestyle benefits of the beautiful Suffolk coast and Broads National Park.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment, therapy and consultation relating to adults with learning disabilities. The duties also include supporting psychologically informed interventions provided by other members of the team. The role may involve providing education and training in psychological perspectives to colleagues in the team and, where relevant, to carers and staff in other agencies. The post outline also includes the supervision of trainee and assistant psychologists. The team has strong links with the University of East Anglia.
There may be opportunities to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service research projects within the area covered by the team.

Within the Waveney Learning Disabilities Service there is a strong team of experienced clinicians who have a range of specialist interests and expertise. Peer and individual supervision are provided and CPD is highly valued.
The post holder will be part of the Community Learning Disability (LD) Service for the Great Yarmouth and Waveney (GY&W) Care Group - providing services in the Waveney (North Suffolk) part of this locality. A Consultant Psychologist leads the psychology input in the LD service.

PRIMARY CLINICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provision of specialist clinical/counselling psychology assessment of individuals , carers and families referred to the Service, using and interpreting complex psychological data from a variety of sources, e.g. neuropsychological and psychometric assessments, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews, offence analysis.
Formulation and implementation of formal psychological treatment and/or management plans, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the service users problems. Responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for patients and, where appropriate, carers and families. To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes.
To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of people whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard careplans under the care of this post holder. To ensure appropriate assessment, formulation and interventions, communicating with the referral agent and others involved with the care on a regular basis.
To provide specialist clinical/counselling psychology expertise, knowledge, advice, guidance and consultation to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all members of the LD clinical team.

Experience
Essential
- Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post
- Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of
- Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment.
- Experience of supervision and teaching.
Desirable
- Experience of representing psychology within MDT setting (clinical and organisational contexts).
- Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post.
Qualifications
Essential
- Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS
- Ongoing further specialist training/accredited short courses
- Supervisor training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme clinical psychology trainees or willing to undertake training
- Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and CareProfessions Council
Desirable
- Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions (assessment and / or therapiest)
Knowledge
Essential
- Doctorate level knowledge of psychological assessment, treatment and research methodology
- Knowledge of mental health and other relevant legislation within specialist clinical context
- Evidence of CPD as recommended by BPS and HCPC
Desirable
- Knowlege base to include new and developing assessment and treatment methods for the clinical group.
- Extensive familiarity with psychometric assessment tools and screening measures in the clinical area.

- Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Able to effectively communicate technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals, within and outside NHS.
