Applications are invited for a full-time Community Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist post (10 programmed activities) within the Low Secure and Community Forensic Directorate in Nottinghamshire.

The Low Secure and Community Forensic Directorate is a diverse Directorate comprised of a low secure inpatient hub and several community services in Nottinghamshire. The community services include a Community Forensic Service across Nottinghamshire County, a Community Forensic Intellectual Developmental Disability (CFIDD) service, Assertive Transition Service (ATS), a Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion (L&D) service and MBT / Personality disorder services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:
  • Have expert knowledge in Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Develop personal skills and knowledge through a personal development plan, peer group support and annual appraisal.
  • Undertake professional supervision as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the supervision and training needs of staff within the team and beyond as appropriate.
  • Comply with Trust guidance and policies, including those on child protection and vulnerable adults.
  • Comply with statutory and non-statutory regulations and guidelines as required by the Trust.
  • Undertake clinical audit.
  • Have excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Hold all essential qualifications, and have the relevant experience and training.


About us

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was created in April 2011. It has two service delivery divisions. The Forensic Division, which includes high secure services based at Rampton Hospital (described in detail below) and the Local Partnerships Division which provides a comprehensive range of mental health, learning disability and physical healthcare services to Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (population 1.5 million).

The Forensic Division of the Trust includes the full spectrum of forensic services, namely high secure services (Rampton Hospital), medium secure services (Arnold Lodge in Leicester and Wathwood in Rotherham), low secure services (Wells Road Centre, Nottingham) and community forensic services for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, as well as the provision of healthcare to 7 prisons across Yorkshire and the East Midlands.

Job description
Job responsibilities

  • The post-holder will have consultant responsibilities for a caseload of up to 40 community-based patients. Some of these patients will be subject to Mental Health Act (MHA) provisions (conditionally discharged, guardianship or SCTO). Care co-ordination is provided by community psychiatric nurses.
  • You will have specific consultant responsibility predominantly for the patients in Nottinghamshire County shared with Dr Stocking-Korzen.
  • You will be involved in assessing new community forensic referrals, and provide liaison advice / consultation where appropriate with other agencies. This may include liaising with MAPPA.
  • You will attend RAMM (referrals meeting: record of activity monitoring meeting).
  • You will participate along with other Directorate consultants in the Directorate through-care process. This may involve assessing patients in secure care as to their suitability to transition into a community setting.
  • You will provide medical and clinical leadership, along with consultant colleagues working with you, to the community forensic services.
  • You will contribute towards clinical governance and service development, particularly within the community services domain.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential
  • Recognised basic medical degree
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in Forensic Psychiatry (or General Adult Psychiatry with appropriate forensic experience)
  • Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status and DBS clearance

Desirable
  • Relevant higher degree, eg MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications

Experience
Essential
  • 3 years approved higher training in Forensic Psychiatry (or General Adult Psychiatry and experience in forensic psychiatry)
  • Working with mentally disordered offenders

Desirable
  • Clinical experience of working in community forensic settings
  • Other relevant experience, eg specific psychological therapies

Skills
Essential
  • Ability to take a leadership role in a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care and staff morale
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
