Hello, my name is Dr Helen Frain and I am the Interim Operational Lead for IDD Psychology in the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Our team prides itself on the excellent psychological care we provide, supporting our service users that live in the Nottinghamshire Trust area, especially over the past 24 months during the pandemic.

I represent part of a welcoming psychology team who are part of the larger Trust who employ 2,800 dedicated staff who provide vital and integral healthcare services for our patients and service users in a variety of settings, ranging from community through to acute wards, covering this vast geographical area.

Main duties of the job

The IDD service provides specialist care for those aged over 18 with intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions, focusing on those whose needs cannot be met by a mainstream provision. We work to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of our service users, providing treatment and support on less complex needs, those with the most severe and complex needs and everything else in between.

Within the IDD Service, we take a professional approach to meeting individual needs and ensuring that people receive the support they require to live a fulfilling life within their local community. Assessment and treatment is delivered by our Community Learning Disability Teams across Nottinghamshire. Where there has been an increase in risk or deterioration and the mental health issues cannot be managed in the community, then assessment and treatment is delivered in our ICATT team or inpatient units.

Job responsibilities

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Clinical Psychology Service employs 13 psychologists on a number of City and County sites. We work in Intellectual Disability Community Teams, Intensive Community Assessment and Treatment teams (ICATT) and inpatient teams, as well as the Adult Neurodevelopmental Service including the Nottingham Autism Service. We enjoy strong relationships with local clinical psychology training courses and host trainees on a regular basis.

We aim to provide a compassionate, respectful, personalised, dynamic, and evolving clinical psychology service. Our primary function is to contribute psychological understandings to all the teams and services we work with, using psychological theories and evidence to deepen and broaden existing understandings of the people involved. We work in partnership with our multidisciplinary colleagues, and with service users and their carers, to maximise wellbeing and quality of life. We draw flexibly on a broad range of models and types of intervention. Among other specialist approaches we offer two family and systems clinics.

You will provide psychology input within one or more community teams, including specialist assessment and treatment, consultation, training and supervision. You will contribute to service evaluation and research.

You must be a qualified and registered clinical psychologist, with experience of working in the field of intellectual disability and/or related areas. You must have excellent writing skills. An interest in family therapy/systemic practice will be an advantage. Applications from trainees who are about to qualify will be considered, with appointment at Band 7 and a personal development plan to meet the criteria for Band 8a.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010

Qualifications and Training
Essential

• DClinPsy or equivalent
• Registered by the HCPC as a clinical psychologist
• Eligible for Chartered Psychologist status

• Further training in relevant specific assessment methods and/or therapeutic interventions.

• Broad understanding of theories and interventions relevant to adults with ID, their families and support systems
