Are you an Occupational Therapist passionate about promoting the mental wellbeing of care home residents living with dementia? County Dementia Outreach Service are looking for a motivated Band 6 OT to join our experienced team of Clinicians supporting care home residents in the Mansfield & Ashfield locality. We operate within a virtual team model with clinicians being based within community mental health teams.We utilise dementia friendly, non-pharmacological, person centred care approaches working collaboratively with our residents, their loved ones and care home staff to enhance wellbeing. Our remit is to reduce distress and behaviours of concern. We aim to reduce inappropriate admissions to hospital and maintain appropriate care placements. Job responsibilities

The County Dementia Outreach Service aims to improve the quality of care for individuals with dementia living in care homes. We are looking for a committed and experienced part time Band 6 Occupational Therapist to help deliver the service within the Community Mental Health Team for Older People in the Mansfield & Ashfield locality.

You must be a registered Occupational Therapist and be registered with HCPC and must have experience and knowledge of working with those living with dementia in a health or social care setting. You should have sound understanding of the relationship between physical health and its impact on mental health. You'll have excellent understanding of the Mental Capacity Act including DoLS. Thorough risk assessment skills and excellent communication skills are imperative to the role as is the confidence to challenge and raise quality concerns if required.

In addition to the above benefits, The Mental Health Services for Older People Occupational Therapy service offers regular monthly forums on wide range of topics to promote continuous personal development and staff support.

You will also have access to a Band 7 Occupational Therapy Clinical Specialist and an Allied Health Professional Lead for specialist advice and support. A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010. The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021 have stipulated that From 11th November 2021, allcare home workers, and anyone entering a care home, will need to be fully vaccinated (had a full course of an MHRA approved COVID-19 vaccine), unless they are exempt under the regulations. These Regulations apply to this post and therefore it is a requirement that you provide evidence of your vaccination status or a medical exemption as a part of the recruitment process.

Essential
  • BSc/Diploma in OT
  • HCPC registration

Desirable
  • Practice Placement Educator

Aptitude/Skills
Essential
  • Good written, verbal and IT skills
  • Ability to undertake specialist OT assessments and assess complex risks with people with mental health conditions and cognitive impairment.
  • Understanding of the diverse needs of older adults
  • Effective time management and organisational skills and ability to work under pressure.

Desirable
  • Clinical Supervision Skills
  • Ability to undertake initial mental health assessments and experience of care coordination
  • Ability to develop skills in others, including informal teaching skills

Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working with older people with mental health conditions and dementia as an occupational therapist
  • Experience working at band 5 or 6 level in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of effective, adaptable communication with patients, carers and other agencies

Desirable
  • Experience of working in a community or primary care team
