This is an exciting opportunity to join Leeds Community and Wellbeing services, as we embark on our journey to transform our community services across Leeds and we are currently in the first phase of service transformation, in line with the NHS long-term plan.

We are investing significantly in psychological profession utilising interventions and how we strengthen a system of care which is psychologically informed. We have a range of opportunities for training and development, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Our collective aim is to achieve greater integration between secondary and primary mental health services, along with the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. We're really passionate about having people who use our services, their families and carers more involved in the care provisions we deliver.

Leeds community mental health services are multi-disciplinary groups of professionals working together to provide specialist community-focused mental health services to working age adults. Psychological practitioners are a much valued and integral part of this work, providing specialist assessment and interventions, and also contributing to the clinical thinking and decision making of the teams. Alongside direct clinical work, a key component of their role is to provide supervision, consultation, and training to the wider team.

Main duties of the job

We are recruiting for band 8a Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologists. We have exciting opportunities for clinical psychologists to join our workforce at band 7 with robust developmental plans to progress internally to band 8a. We would therefore welcome applications from band 7 Psychologists who are keen to progress into more senior roles.

We are keen to recruit people with experience, knowledge and skills of working with severe and enduring mental health difficulties such as complex trauma, psychosis, interpersonal difficulties, and self-harm. Equally important are leadership skills and the ability to develop innovative practice. We are looking for people who can contribute to the vision for the service, working closely with colleagues in different parts of the system, including primary care and our valued voluntary sector partners. A key part of this role is to provide clinical supervision to other psychology professionals within the team.

Job description Job responsibilities

Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist 7/8A

To provide a qualified psychotherapy service to service users (SUs) and carers accessing Working Age Adult Services. To work autonomously and making appropriate decisions without opportunity to consult more widely. To provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy, to offer advice and consultation on SUs psychological care to clinical colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Care Group policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the service area. To provide a key role in psychological aspects of service development in service areas of primary responsibility including delivering clinical supervision to other psychological professionals.

The transition between and band 7 and 8a is based on gaining experience in and formal training in the delivery of clinical supervision to other psychological professionals which will be set out in a development plan on appointment.

We are pleased to be able to offer a Recruitment Bonus of £1000 to allexternalexperienced psychological professions applicants (not preceptees) and will be paid £500 upon commencement with LYPFT, and then £500 after a qualifying 6 months in post. Unfortunately, this bonus isnotavailable to existing LYPFT staff.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • 1.Doctorate Level Training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent prior to 1994) and HCPC registration
  • 2.Additional significant post qualification training relevant to the service and job role outlined in the job summary
  • 3.Formal training in the supervision of others
Experience Essential
  • Significant post qualification experience in an area of practice relevant to the service specified in the job summary, to include assessment of risk
