The National Inpatient Centre for Psychological Medicine (NICPM) is looking for qualified Mental Health Nurses. Full time and part time positions are available.

This is an opportunity to work in a unique rehabilitation setting, which has a history over many years of delivering care for people from across the UK who have severe and complex chronic conditions including severe ME/CFS, Functional Neurological Disorders, somataform conditions and medically unexplained symptoms.

The successful applicant will work alongside the clinical team delivering a high standard of care using a biopsychosocial framework within a supportive MDT setting

We provide a variety of evidence based, psychological therapies and practical interventions. This will be in the form of individual sessions, joint sessions, and group work, all offered and led by all members of the MDT. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop existing skills in a pre-dominantly non-pharmacological setting.

Main duties of the job

Rehabilitation & Recovery - You will be responsible for delivering a range of therapeutic interventions to our patients in 1:1 sessions, joint sessions with MDT colleagues and in co-facilitating a range of therapeutic groups.

MDT working - You will be working alongside colleagues from various professional backgrounds. We expect you to show an understanding and appreciation of each professional groups' role in the delivery of care here at NICPM.

Key working - Coordinating the care for people with severe and complex presentations. Writing and implementing care plans to meet the wide-ranging needs of our patients. Supporting colleagues to maintain high standards of care.

Assessments - Not just assessing risk but providing more detailed and ongoing assessments of a person's biopsychosocial wellbeing and needs. In time, we will also ask you carry out pre-admission assessments on those patients on our waiting list.

Shift coordinating - Managing the day to day running of our ward environment. Supporting staff on shift and providing clinically informed handovers. Having an overall awareness of what is occurring on the ward and dealing with situations as they arise.

Administering medication alongside other treatments - Medications are just one part of the treatment we provide for patients here at NICPM.

The successful applicant/s will:

Undertake biopsychosocial assessments and contribute to the planning of care for patients in a multidisciplinary framework.

Participate in and coordinate the delivery of quality mental health and physical nursing care. This will involve the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for people who have complex needs requiring involvement from a range of professionals in the team, or where specific emotional, social or symptom management issues need to be addressed.

Assess the level of risk to patients and others using appropriate standardised tools.

As the shift coordinator, liaise with colleagues in the MDT regarding admissions and discharges of patients.

Demonstrate sound clinical skills and ability to make decisions, promoting the involvement of patients.

Effectively manage own time and workload with ability to delegate appropriately and prioritise accordingly.

Manage the clinical area, ensuring at all times that health and safety standards are met.

Facilitate and co-facilitate therapeutic groups.

Maintain and contribute to a safe and therapeutic working environment.

Our care is person centred, and care planning individualised to meet patient rehabilitation and recovery needs.

A full in-house preceptorship package offered to all successful applicants with regular peer education sessions and team supervision sessions. This is provided in addition to individual clinical and management supervision.

Working with families and carers Help build and maintain relationships with the wider care network for our patients. Helping families to understand the journey a person has gone through in order to support their ongoing rehabilitation goals post discharge.
