We are seeking to recruit Registered and/or Accredited Counsellors to join our team based in Southampton City.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with the appropriate skills, experience and qualifications to join a highly motivated, professional and experienced team who are passionate about providing high quality counselling to clients with depression, within an NHS IAPT service.

The successful candidates will be qualified (or expected to undertake training provided) in one of the NICE recommended high-intensity therapies for depression (i.e. IPT, DIT, PCE-CfD or couples therapy) and will commit to additional trainings in accordance with service need.

We currently have opportunity for the right candidates with appropriate supervision skills and qualifications to join the team.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job

Band 5: £27,055 - £32,934 p.a.

Band 6: £33,706 - £40,588 p.a.

You will be expected to provide Counselling for patients who present with symptoms of depression. Sessions will be offered via face-to-face appointments in a Southampton venue and/or remotely via digital platforms including. Your caseload will be split on a 60% face-to-face /40% remote ratio in keeping with the current protocol for the whole service. On occasion home visits may be required where patients are homebound. We provide short term time limited treatments - around 6 sessions for Generic Counselling and other modalities (IPT/DIT/PCE-CfD or CTfD as outlined in the IAPT Manual). You will be required to facilitate groups online and have excellent administration, IT and communication skills. The successful candidate will work as part of a team, be expected to work flexibly including one evening to meet with service demand.

Previous experience of working in an NHS mental health setting, Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) service or similar organisation would be highly desirable.

Person Specification Educational Requirements and Qualificatinos Essential
  • Diploma or Degree in Counselling/Psychotherapy. Clinical training in the theory and practice of cousnelling
  • BACP Registration
  • BACP Accreditation or equivalent governing body (BPC, UKCP)
  • Further training in a recognised model of psychotherapy
Desirable
  • NICE Approved Modality training eg., CTfD, DIT, IPT, PCET
  • Qualification in group facilitation
  • Qualification in Supervision
Skills, Experience and Knowledge Essential
  • Skills in the assessment and evaluation of risk associated with mental ill health.
  • Fully competent with data input and IT systems.
Desirable
  • Previous experience of working in an IAPT service or the NHS primary care.
  • Provide supervision to meet service demand.
Personal Qualities/Attitudes Essential
  • Effective communication in written and spoken English.
  • Personally responsible for self care and be able to work in a pressurised environment.

Car owner/driver Essential
  • Level 2 - Must be a car driver and be able to use own car for official duties when required.
