An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Barnet Memory Service for an occupational therapist to work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team. The team consists of psychiatry, mental health nursing, Admiral nursing, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, assistant psychology and social work. This dynamic and friendly team is based alongside the Older People's Community Mental Health Team. The service is accredited through the Memory Service National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP) and all members of the team contribute to ensure that these standards are maintained and further developed.
The post holder will carry out home visits in order to perform ADL assessments. He/she will play a key role in the running of the Cognitive Stimulation Therapy programme, as well as overseeing and evaluating the wider therapeutic programme in the memory service.
The post holder will guide staff in relation to therapeutic interventions and may be required to supervise a junior staff member.
The post holder will be a key member of a small supportive team and will receive regular supervision. The appraisal process will ensure professional development through a wide range of opportunities within and external to the service.

Main duties of the job
Perform comprehensive occupational therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, following diagnosis of Dementia. Use this assessment to provide a clinical diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment program.
To hold responsibility for your own caseload and, working without direct supervision but together with the other members of the MDT, deliver a comprehensive package of care to patients and their carers.
Supervision takes the form of monthly meetings, formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case review and joint sessions. Access to advice and support from the wider MDT is available when required.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
With support and guidance from more senior staff, to undertake evidence-based audit and or research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team. May contribute to the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.
To be aware of and to highlight to your line manager any clinical governance issues pertaining to your role and practice

Maintain clear and effective clinical records, using the Trusts electronic patient information system, including progress notes, risk assessment and clustering, in accordance with Trust policy Maintain own personal and professional status by ensuring the requirements laid down by the relevant registration authority are met, eg renewal of registration and continuity of professional development To ensure regular completion of patient and carer surveys and processing of results To assist in the development and monitoring of data bases for patient information To assist with collection of information for audit purposes To assist with compilation of patient information relating to BMS To undertake specific administrative duties as required
Teaching Training and Supervision:
Receive both managerial and clinical supervision, in accordance with professional practice guidelines To undertake and develop the appropriate skills of practice to widen professional scope, ensuring a period of training and in line with approved policies and procedures Provide supervision to junior staff, as required To ensure up to date competency and skills required for the delivery of current duties To contribute to the training and support of other staff in occupational therapy related topics and other topics as required To be conversant with current occupational therapy training and supervise occupational therapy students on clinical placement as required To ensure a conducive learning environment for all staff in the service and review the through audit in consultation with the team leader and occupational therapy departments/university. Person Specification EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS Essential
- Diploma/degree in occupational therapy. HCPC registered occupational therapist.
- Additional study.
- Post qualification experience in mental health, with some experience of working with older people. Establishing own professional role within a multidisciplinary team. Managing a caseload. Utilising a range of assessments and interventions for people with memory problems, as applied to individuals, carers/families and groups.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice and their application to mental health of older people. Knowledge of a range of assessment tools and approaches suitable to mental health practice with older people.
- Working with other agencies statutory and voluntary.
- Experience of working with dementia.
- Supervising student and/or staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in individual and group situations. Well organised and computer literate.
- Experience working with computer databases and spreadsheets.
- Work autonomously as well as effectively within a team.
- Be willing to seek advice and supervision from colleagues.
