Inpatient Rehabilitation Services in West Sussex are looking for an experienced occupational therapist with a passion for occupation and working with people with complex mental health needs. As an experienced practitioner in the mental health field, you will be our clinical Lead for Occupational Therapy, providing professional supervision and leadership to our OT team and joining our clinical leadership team to ensure that our service improvements include an occupational perspective.

The job will involve leading the Occupational Therapy teams at Shepherd House based in Worthing and Connolly House based in Chichester. The wards are mixed gender with 14 beds at Connolly House and 15 beds at Shepherd House. The service offers assessment and treatment for adults with Serious Mental Illness predominantly those with a diagnosis of psychosis. Both units are staffed by a Multi-disciplinary team including Nurses, Medics, Occupational Therapists and Technicians, Pharmacist, Psychologist, Peer Support workers and Volunteers.

You will be joining our clinical leadership team to ensure that our service improvements include an occupational perspective. This will entail the implementation of evidence-based OT assessment tools and interventions, including our group programme and furthering initiatives around patient flow, peer support, vocation and carers' involvement.

As the clinical specialist OT, you will provide clinical input and expertise around complex cases working alongside the multi-disciplinary team. The role will involve working closely with colleagues in community services and third sector providers, building effective partnerships.

Degree/Diploma in occupational therapy

Evidence of post qualification study

Registration with the HPC as an occupational therapist

Practice Education training

Training in the use of standardised occupational therapy assessment tools

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

Extensive experience as a qualified occupational therapist in mental health

Broad experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems but predominantly a good understanding of psychosis and ways of working with this client group.

Experience of both group and individual work

Experience of multidisciplinary working

Experience of supervising staff and students

Experience in a clinical area related to the post

Leadership experience

Experience in applying a range of assessment tools and a comprehensive knowledge of occupational therapy clinical approaches used in mental health
