We are looking for highly motivated Band 5 Nurses who can demonstrate excellent clinical and interpersonal qualities. The successful candidates must have a genuine interest and passion for rehab services and promoting ongoing recovery. They will have a positive outlook and ensure that delivering a high quality service, which genuinely engages with service users, carers and other stakeholders, is a key priority.

You will promote and maintain high standards of care whilst supporting and assisting to implement local and national strategy and initiatives. You will be actively involved in driving forward key performance indicators (KPI's) within the service, supporting with key audits, quality improvement initiatives as well as day to day clinical oversight of the unit.

Main duties of the job

You will need to possess excellent interpersonal skills and be focused in your contribution to the expansion of rehab services. A strong commitment to your ongoing professional education and development is essential.

The candidate will have a genuine desire to work in this specialist area and be able to contribute to the ongoing service development.

The successful post holder will be able to work shifts covering 24 hours, seven days a week.

We offer a full preceptorship package for newly qualified Registered nurses. This will be bespoke to Rehab services however will link very closely with the preceptorship program run at The Harbour acute inpatient unit, with opportunity to attend further sessions and training onsite there.

About us

Opening in early 2022, the Wesham Unit is a newly refurbished building which is home to the newly developed rehabilitation service. It is a 28 bedded unit with 14 male and 14 female beds. The rehabilitation service is for service users with complex psychosis. It focuses on facilitating recovery, empowering the service user to improve or recover their confidence, skills, autonomy, insight and level of independence.

The unit was designed with extensive input from service users and clinicians and is based on good practice guidance and 'safety by design', in addition to recommendations from the Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, to ensure that it can provide high quality care. The ethos of the unit is to provide therapeutic care which is empowering, person centred, needs led, and focuses on promoting recovery and independence.

The unit rehabilitation team is comprised of Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (a job which encompasses healthcare assistants, support workers and occupational therapy technical instructors); Nurses (Bands 5-7), a Ward Manager (Band 7), Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Psychologists, Assistant Psychologist, Specialty Doctor, and a Consultant.

Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse Qualification (RNMH & RNLD)
  • On-going registration with the NMC.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development that supports clinical practice.
Knowledge Essential
  • Can demonstrate an understanding and knowledge base of mental health conditions and their treatments.
  • Can demonstrate a working knowledge of physical health conditions and the complications that this can cause to patients experiencing mental ill health.
Experience Essential
  • Post Graduate experience.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team structure.
  • Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing care needs.
