BAND 8a – CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST PRINCIPAL
Full time or Band 7 preceptorship
OLDER PEOPLES MENTAL HEALTH OPMH inpatient service
We are looking to recruit a Principal Clinical Psychologist to work in the Basingstoke OPMH on Beechwood Ward a functional inpatient service.
The successful candidate will be based at the Parklands Hospital Aldermaston Rd, Basingstoke RG24 9RH for this inpatient role. The service provides care to older people with mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, personality disorder and psychosis, and presenting with complexity, as well as for people with dementia and their carers. This will include assessment and therapy and also assisting in an exciting training initiative to upskill the inpatient staff team in psychological formulation and intervention.
The responsibilities will include the provision of psychological assessment (including neuropsychology) and therapy to older people and their carers in the inpatient setting, to be a source of advice to the multi-disciplinary team on psychological issues and to offer consultation and advice to other mental health and physical health professionals. Supervision of a trainee clinical psychologists, trainee Clinical Associate Psychologists and contribution to service development will also be required. Candidates who have an interest in neuropsychology will have an opportunity to develop these skills further.
There are currently 6 other Clinical Psychologists working with older people in the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust alongside 5 trainee CAPs and 3 Assistant Psychologists. We meet regularly for supervision and peer support and there are close working relationships with the University of Southampton, which is the base for the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology Course. There are therefore extensive opportunities to be involved in teaching trainee clinical psychologists and for collaboration with other professional tutors, academic staff and research.
