We are looking for two Specialty Doctors to join our Community Teams in Central Manchester. These posts are based at the Rawnsley Building on the Manchester Royal Infirmary Site and the nearby Kath Locke Centre in Hulme

We are looking to recruit doctors with at least 3 years' experience in Psychiatry with a minimum of one year spent in general adult /community services.

MRCPsych is an advantage but not essential. The ability to work semi-autonomously with weekly clinical supervision and ready advice from Consultants with moderate complexity and risk is a clear expectation

Section 12 approval is desirable or a stated commitment to obtain this with Consultant mentor support within 6 months of starting post

The job plan will be an 8:2 DCC/SPA for the full-time post and 6.5:1.5 DCC/SPA for the 0.8 wte post.

You will be joining a team of 2 Consultants and one other SAS doctor in each CMHT

These new posts will mean each CMHT has 1.8wte SAS doctors

There is also currently a long-term locum SAS doctor providing new patient assessments.

Successful applicants will be encouraged to join Trust learning events and the weekly Consultant /SAS huddle to keep abreast of training requirements, medical management updates and an opportunity for online case discussions

Main duties of the job

Clinical role
  • Undertake assessments of referrals to the service
  • Diagnose and formulate management plans under tailored supervision
  • Provide management in treatment resistant and complex presentations
  • Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.
  • Assisting in preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings reports and if wished attendance at subsequent hearings.
  • Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.
  • Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.


Leadership role
  • Contributing to decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality care
  • Work with Team to deliver service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards
  • Attendance at Consultant meetings for their service and directorate.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 OR willing to achieve within agreed timescale no less than 6 months
Skills Essential
  • Good clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
