An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the mental health teams working in HMP Preston, HMP Lancaster Farms & HMP Kirkham.

This is an opportunity to develop skills and work in a challenging but rewarding environment, working as part of a team, as an autonomous practitioner and as a supervisor to a small team of counsellors.

You will be required to be; innovative, flexible and able to engage clients with a variety of needs.

You will provide high quality assessment and therapy on an individual basis.

Strong team working principles are essential and you will network with a variety of people as well as work in partnership with a range of different agencies both internal and external to the prison.

Main duties of the job

To provide counselling in a variety of prison settings to people with complex, transient life problems and associated mental ill health.To work compassionately with clients at all times.To provide clinical supervision, mentorship and guidance to less experienced counsellors and students as required.To be committed to and involved in activities integral to the Trust's Quality Improvement System.To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions.To promote at all times a positive image of Counselling Services and the wider Trust.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Individual accreditation with BACP or other recognised governing body.
  • Further post-registration training in a minimum of 2 areas of specialist practice relevant to the post e.g. CBT, EMDR, Couples Counselling or other NICE approved therapies.
  • Clinical Supervisors Course (within agreed timescale).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience Essential
  • Experience working with clients with a wide range of complex needs, using specialised counselling interventions.
  • Multidisciplinary team work and collaboration
  • Substantial clinical supervision of qualified counselling practitioners
Desirable
  • Previous experience of working within Prison setting
Knowledge Essential
  • Evidence-based knowledge of best practice in specialist counselling interventions for clients with mental health conditions
  • Significant knowledge of treatment options and referral pathways within NHS mental health services.
  • Risk assessment and risk management in mental health
  • Clinical Governance and Clinical Supervision
Skills Essential
  • Record keeping and report writing
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Provide effective mentorship and clinical supervision for less experienced counsellors and students
  • Manage own caseload and waiting list and prioritise effectively
