This appointment is for a full-time Senior Specialist Psychiatrist in Working Age Adult Services (Community 10 sessions ). The post holder will be responsible for providing medical cover for Elmbridge CMHRS whilst working in partnership with the Consultant of the team.

The successful post holder is expected to liaise closely with all services such 24/7, Liaison services, Home Treatment Teams, Single Point of Access, and other statutory and non-statutory services to fulfill this role and provide the highest standards of care for service users in Elmbridge CMHRs.

The post holder would be expected to engage in the Trust Wide SAS network, including participation in SAS training and engagement events.

Main duties of the job

- The post holder will be community-based working with 10 PAs in Elmbridge locality and provide reciprocal leave cover for medics within service.

- The post holder will support the Mental Health Practitioners and Junior Drs of the team

- The CMHRS provides a service during core working hours only (9 am to 5 pm).

- Team members can carry out comprehensive initial assessments, and can formulate initial treatment plans with medical input when necessary. There will be an expectation that the post holder will work closely with senior medics and managers.

- The post holder will be expected to provide senior medical input to the team, as described elsewhere in the job description. They will also be expected to participate in local leadership meetings and work with local operational leads on service development and the improvement of the quality of services locally.

- The post-holder may be expected to carry out home visits as and when necessary.

- The post holder would be expected to hold outpatient clinics of increased complexity, as appropriate to the seniority of the grade.

- The post holder would be expected to demonstrate enhanced clinical skills. They would also be expected to provide senior cover for any urgent work with the consultant.

- Usual hours of work are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday with some flexibility to meet service needs

- The post holder will be expected to be part of the second call Surrey-wide HST/Middle-grade Rota

Job description Job responsibilities

- The Senior Specialist Psychiatrist will be clinically line managed by a Consultant Psychiatrist of the team. They will be operationally and professionally accountable, through the medical management structure to the Associate Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer

- Attendance to the MAC (Medical Advisory Committee) is encouraged and/or can be represented via the SAS representative on the MAC.

- The post holder will have his/her performance reviewed through the Trust's appraisal process on an annual basis by the designated consultant supervisor. Job planning will also be conducted by the Associate Medical Director. Disputes arising in job planning will initially be escalated to the Chief Medical Officer by the local job planning procedure agreed upon and varied through the LNC and Medical Executive

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • A recognised basic Medical Degree and MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Full Medical Registration (GMC) with a Licence to Practice
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or CCT in appropriate specialty (or within 6 months at time of Interview/Assessment) or equivalent
  • Approved Clinician Status and approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills
Experience Essential
  • Good knowledge of psychopharmacological, psycho-therapeutic and psycho-social interventions
  • Very good clinical skills using bio- psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of participating in continuous professional development
Desirable
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
