We have an exciting opportunity for a SAS doctor looking to work with the Multidisciplinary team at Chalkhill adolescent in-patient unit.

You will work alongside a friendly, professional multidisciplinary team including a two consultant psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social work, systemic therapist, and support workers. The inpatient team also works closely with the community crisis team.

You will receive weekly supervision and gain experience in assessment and treatment of mental illness in adolescents.

Main duties of the job

The Specialty doctor will be a member of the Sussex CAMHS Psychiatry group and will be expected to engage in specific locality meetings between managers and doctors as agreed with the Lead Consultant.

The Trust is committed to a strong management and professional partnership to manage and govern all services and this is reflected in the management structure at all levels within the organisation.

A normal working week comprises of 9PA of direct clinical care and 1PAs of supporting professional activities (this varies for part time employees). The post holder will be expected to act in a consultative capacity to other members of the multi-disciplinary team. (an additional SPA session is offered for those completing a CESR application).

The post holder's main objective would be to provide psychiatric input to the ward team and partnership agencies. The post-holder will be expected to provide clinical advice and support to Acute hospitals across Sussex and to Children and Young People Services regarding patient care, ensuring consistency of approach across the Trust.

It is desirable that the post holder is registered as an approved clinician, and trained and registered for Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act.

The post offers you a rewarding opportunity to gain relevant child and adolescent psychiatry experience at 'doctor in training' core trainee level OR SAS level. Although the posts are not recognised towards the 'Certificate of Completion of Training', you will be encouraged to participate in educational programmes, as well as supported to access and undertake audit and research.

The post holder is required to:
  • To provide a high quality of specialist clinical assessment, including relevant psychiatric and physical investigation to children, young people and their families on the ward at Chalkhill.
  • In conjunction with other members of the MDT to plan and deliver appropriate individually tailored treatment plans.
  • To regularly review and monitor patients treatment progress.
  • To keep accurate appropriate and up-to-date medical and administrative documentation including computer records.
  • To liaise closely with other relevant professionals and organisations including general practitioners, medical colleagues, UHS, acute trusts and liaison teams.
  • To operate within guidelines, policies and procedures relevant to the post.
  • To provide clinical advice, liaison and consultation as required to colleagues in primary care, community services and acute specialties in line with new ways of working

To contribute to regular communication and correspondence with other agencies (e.g. GP letters, discharge summaries etc.)

To be successful in the post you will need to have a Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) or equivalent, registered with a license to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC) and completed Foundation Years 1 & 2 (or equivalent).
