We are looking to recruit to a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to the newly established Older Adult Therapeutic Service (OATS). This is a great opportunity to join a new, thriving and expanding Older Adult therapeutic team , using evidenced based, client centred and recovery focused group based interventions to enhance the lives of older adults living in the Black Country. The service is based on a 'hub and spoke' model and the successful candidate will be based within the Wolverhampton spoke, but may be required to work in other areas as required.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage a clinical caseload of older adults with mental health needs requiring occupational assessment and treatment interventions within community settings. To include older adults with dementia and functional diagnosis.
  • To undertake occupational therapy assessments/treatment interventions with designated service users, formulating person centred care plans
  • To plan and implement occupational therapy interventions, including individual and group based provision, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • To work collaboratively with service users to identify occupational therapy goals as part of the overall recovery care plan.
  • To utilise standardised and non-standardised occupational therapy assessment tools as part of the assessment process.
  • To actively engage and motivate service users in the occupations of self care, productivity and leisure
  • To work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team members providing occupational therapy specific contributions to the care and treatment process of patients.
  • To utilise clinical reasoning skills, demonstrating critical thinking.
  • To apply an experiential understanding of the effects of functional, cognitive and physical impairment related to mental health needs in the therapeutic process of treatment planning and intervention
  • To be responsible for the planning and delivery of occupational therapy interventions in a variety of community environments, according to service user need.

Due to the closely linked team of Occupational therapists across the Division there will be numerous opportunities to develop your experience through your role as we embark upon community transformation. You will provide one to one and group based interventions to older adults who have complex needs including those with dementia. You will receive training and opportunity to participate in service development.

Refer to the Job Description for detailed main job responsibilities, however, you will be joining a friendly multi disciplinary team who are committed to the values of person-centred, recovery focused care and compassion. You will be supported by senior occupational therapists to develop your skills within this role. This is a newly created service so there will be lots of opportunity to be involved with service development initiatives, to ensure high quality care.

You will be supported clinically by Senior Occupational Therapists within the service and will receive further professional support from Occupational Therapy Lead. Ongoing training and continuing professional development opportunities are available, including peer support as part of the Older Adult AHP Workforce.

  • HCPC Registration
Experienc Essential
  • Documented evidence of CPD
  • Post preceptorship
Knowledge Essential
  • OT assessments and intervention with OA
  • Knowledge and application of MOHO
  • Knowledge of MDT working
  • Specialist interest in Dementia
  • Experience of MDT working
