An exciting opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager has arisen within the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), at St Cadocs Hospital.

Beechwood ward is a 9-bedded mixed gender Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The PICU offers a Health Board wide service and therefore accepts referrals for patients within the catchment area of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. It is a locked ward, although the structured physical environment is designed to facilitate therapeutic management that is assessed and based on specialist intensive interventions and not containment. It is an integral part of the Health Board's mental health patient pathway.

The Unit provides intensive, short term, individualized care for those patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act and who are in an acutely disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder, resulting in increased risks that seriously compromise their physical or psychological well-being, or that of others and require them to be assessed or treated in a supported environment for a brief period of time.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Ward Manager is a senior member of the inpatient team and will be responsible for the care coordination of patients and support the Ward Manager with the day to day clinical management of the ward, have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and have the ability to respond effectively to arising mental and physical health needs. They will provide sound clinical practice and guidance to junior staff, be adaptable, and capable of delivering a high standard of care.

There is an expectation that they are able to travel within ABUHB to undertake patient risk assessments and support the wider organisation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
